"Thriller" Complete Series Box Set Price Watch! - Page 2

i have also been disappointed in the dvd cases themselves, especially with relic hunter and outer limits. The casing is very brutal and does not hold the dvd's inplace. I am not sure who was the person that design the package, but, it is very poor. I have complain to amazon.ca and they are sending my a replacement case. Amazon is very good with their customer service.

I think you are on to something because when my orders comes from DE or KY they are shrink wrapped and arrive perfect. If they come from NV or AZ then they seem to have the inflatable bags

that are worthless. I'm in California so our orders are probably pulled from thoes locations.

I guess the low prices come at a price. If they keep having to replace sets maybe they will look into it.

Well, how do people like the show so far? It's kinda like a cross between TZ and AH Presents, I'm thinking--although I know it's also totally its own creature. Favorite episodes? How is the PQ?

There are some incredible episodes, like the one with William Shatner, Russell Johnson, etc. about mirrors. I would say this show is very much like night gallery as well due to the story lines.

I never seen the show when it first aired and it is like watching the show for the first time.

I'm about 30 episodes into this and there are a few exceptional episodes, such as "Man of Mystery" and the Ida Lupino-directed episode, "The Bride Died Twice." But it really is an odd duck. There are episodes that would fit on Alfred Hitchcock Presents featuring stories about murdering your spouse; there are some horror stories like the mirror episode mentioned; and then there's episodes like "The Specialists," which to me appeared to be a failed pilot for an procedural FBI-like series about investigators of crime-syndicates (and it was deadly dull). The strange brew mix is a plus, but the hits are still few and far between. The music and sound is outstanding, though, and the PQ is good if not great.

Thanks very much for the report!

I decided to rent this from netflix for now, and based on your review that's looking like a good decision.

Still, I'm curious....

This is one of my all-time favorite anthology series.

By the way, the reason for the higher price tag is because 27 of the 67 episodes have audio commentary tracks.

Plus Karloff's NBC station promos as well.

I love this set, too.  Haven't watched even half of them, and I'm just picking them at random, but even the "lesser" episodes are a delight.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see three copies on the rack at Best Buy the other day, when they'd had none previously since the release.

I may have missed something, but it seems like 2 of the three main characters in the first episode are totally bonkers....? All except Leslie Nielsen are just nuts.

Another first rate episode, "The Terrible Teakwood." Something about stories of virtuoso pianists with their hands cut off that always strikes a great horror chord for me (pun intended). Excellent acting, good story, and I love the fact that they replace the usual ending music over the end credits with the solo piano playing from the episode. The series is starting to fire on more cylinders well into the set.

The episode's title is "Terror in Teakwood". smile.gif

Mr George is another good episode. Mr George is the guardian of the girl that is set up to inherit everything, but, people in the house want to bump her off to get the fortune. Each of the combatants is then killed off leaving the little girl as the sole error. This was incredible episode and i watch it last night.

This would be a great series to re-make, especially with today's technology. You can not replace Boris Karloff, but, the plot lines could be dressed up. Outerlimits did a great job with re-doing itself in the 90s.

Not to be confused with "The Horrible Short-Term Memory." It was a pretty terribly ugly box, though.

The "Mr. George" episode (whew, easy title) was also directed by Ida Lupino, I believe. It was a very good episode, but I think it would have been even better if Boris had done the voice of the gentle uncle, Mr. George. The one they used was just too generic, expressionless.

This show is great purchased, if you like episodes that keep you on your seat. There are some really good plots and acting, especially from time to time when Boris Karloff does a guest appearance. I have watched several episodes and i can not get tired of them.
