A few weeks?! So does it have a definitive release date? Or are you just lucky?

Yes, it is finished! I believe it releases in October but it may be a limited release. And yes again it's about 3 hours! There is talk of a cut down version, which Malick did for New World as well, but nothing confirmed.

The Playlist read this cos you've been quoted.

Also, October! Surely we should see publicity material by now, a poster, trailer, something!

The quote that you have was from my interview with a second-unit cameraman for The New World, most of which I wrote about on my Terrence Malick blog: http://terrencemalicksdream.blogspot.com/

Its more detailed there with the interview, but basically its this. The person told Malick that there would be many in line waiting to get their hands on an extended cut of TTRL, to which Malick responded that "some things that you put so much of your heart and soul into are best left alone for a while." I have other sources that suggest that Malick indeed wanted to create a longer film, the "Terrence Malick Experience" in this actor's words to be exact, but then he got a phone call at the eleventh hour that it had to be cut to less than three to be eligible for theatrical distribition with a certain influential theatre chain. Also, they were hustling to have it completed in time for Oscar season.

Also, for those interested, I have stills from the Criterion The Thin Red Line (DVD version) at my blog (toward the beginning of it). The blog is only about a week old. I also have some stills of Mickey Rourke from the film in there as well.

Bless

Sorry, I was referencing the quotes Sean made about The Tree of Life, which Ain't it Cool News have picked up too.

Also, Paul, I was curious about all these interviews, are they been put into a book, if so, any word of release, all this information you have is great (as is Sean's).

This film is NOT coming out in October.

Sean's above review is now posted over at Ain't It Cool News.

Here's a link to an early review. It's not rare for me to be at odds with reviews at Blu-ray.com, especially where particular reviewers are concerned; the one referenced here has a history of liking damn near everything, but his observations regarding TTRL are no less interesting, at least as one part of a much larger assessment.

Still more input from DVDBeaver. Not that we usually have anything to fear when it comes to Criterion BD...but this might be the safest pre-order ever.

I was sold at The Thin Red Line by Criterion on Blu. These fantastic reviews are icing, though. Two more weeks!!

Rating it pretty high for PQ and AQ... cant wait.

Even though I find this film incomprehensible as far as the story goes, I'll probably get this for the cinematography. There were a lot of shots in this film that should look great on BD.
