Yesterday, I logged off on Sat, Aug 21 and then logged on but the cookie expiration-date is
Sept 4th which is 2 weeks not 60 days

It appears The Powers That Be have no answer for this one.

Just noticed the response, I will look into it.

The hometheaterforum cookie that you are looking at doesn't control your logout.  If you close your browser, delete the cookie then relaunch your browser you will find that you are still logged in.  There are two cookies....the names and locations vary depending on the browser you are using.

OK- this seems overly complicated as many times it has been stated " log off" and then "LOG IN". I have Fire Fox 3.6.8 with windows XP-3. EXACTLY what does one do?

I think you misunderstood my post.  I was not asking you to log out or log back in.  I was just telling you that the cookie you found labled HTF was not the one that is used to set your logout interval, so any expiration date you saw relating to that cookie has nothing to do with you getting logged out.  Deleting it and having you log in and out was just a way for you to test if to verify what I was saying if you wanted to.  You shouldn't get logged our on 9/4 because of that cookie.  Since you have FF look for a cookie named HUDSESSID.  That controls the logout interval--see what its expiration date is.

I have just looked at my cookies- there are something like 12 of them. The one named "hudsessid"  AND "logged_in" both have an expiration dates of Sept 4th, 2010 which is not the 60 days but 2 weeks.

I've decided to list all of my HTF cookis for Fire Fox 3.6.8

Note: I have never recently seen a cookie with the name "HTF"

Thanks for the additional information.  Hudsessid is the appicable one that is tied to how long you stay logged in for. Now that I know that you are looking at the right cookie I'll load FF or work with another staff member to do some more testing this weekend (I don't have it installed on my machine and the cookies are different in IE which I use) and get engineering involved on Monday to see why you are getting that.  Its possbile that just the cookie expires then, but the session id in the cookie doesn't expire on the server for 60 days.  I'll find out either way sometime on Monday.  Can you copy and past the contents of that cookie into a PM and send it to me?

Sumner-

Can you please do another log out, remove the HTF cookies and log back in?  All our tests are giving a 60 day cookie.  Assuming you get a 60 day cookie, I'll try to see what was going on on the 21st that could have caused it.

I don't see why this is so complicated???? Why delete all of the cookies? Why not as has been stated so many times - log off and then log on. I will not be able to do anything for a few days.

I just got logged out in the middle of doing a post.  My hudsessid is now due to expire October 30.  I still don't get why I can't just be logged in until the end of time like before.  Just relating my experience--I don't really care enough to try any experiments with my cookies.

I'm just asking you to delete the HTF related cookies.  In our testing here since we starting looking at this every time we log out and delete the Hudsessid cookie and log back in it is reissued with an expiration 60 days out.  Alternatively you can wait until 9/4, get logged out and then see if the new cookie is a 60 day one.  We have been looking into what happened approx two weeks ago to cause you and Greg to get a two week cookie instead on a 60 day cookie, but have come up empty so far.  Good news is it looks like Greg got a 60 day cookie, I'm hoping you will too.

I don't need you to do any experimenting.  They fact that you see a 60 day cookie means that everything is now working.  I'm not sure what happened to give you a two week cookie prior to this.  Since Sumnernor is still on a two week cookie I wanted to make sure it he gets a new one that it is a 60 day cookie.  You have already confirmed that yours is.  For the why 60 days and not forever revisit the first page of this thread starting at post 16.

I just got logged off (during an active session).

After I logged backed on I checked my HTF cookies.  The HudSessID cookie was 60 days:

Even though it looked like the issue had been fixed (new cookies all appeared to be 60 day ones), based on Sumnernor and Greg's reports we were continuing to investigate.  I heard back from engineering that they found an issue late this afternoon that some two week cookies weren't being cleared so they could be replaced by the new 60 day cookies.  The root cause of the issue was fixed/cleared almost a week ago, so all new cookies issued recently are 60 day cookies.  The additional fix for log outs happening during active sessions is still being worked on, but will be deployed by the time the current batch of 60 day cookies expires.

Thanks for testing.  I'm glad you now have the 60 day cookie.  Thanks again to you and Greg (and Mike) for reporting and helping us troubleshoot the problem.
