A few words about...™ The Natural -- in Blu-ray

A few times a year, we get a confluence of events thats gives us not only an extraordinary film to be enjoyed in one's home theater, but a perfect use of what Blu-ray technology has to offer.

The Natural, from filmmaker Barry Levinson, as photographed by cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, is an Event occurrence.

It is a film surrounded in an almost mystical aura.  In its most basic form, The Natural is about the redemption of the human spirit, clothed within a story of baseball in its early legendary decades.

While the main cast is extraordinary, there are special pleasures to be found here.  Watching Robert Duvall just sitting and watching the game, or seeing Wilford Brimley and Richard Farnswoth playing off of each other are among the film's delights.

But the one of the real "stars" of the film, along with Mr. Redford, is brilliant look brought to the production by Mr. Deschanel.

As the image quality of Blu-rays gets better and better, in many cases predicated upon the fact that they are ports from original data, there is a very special, almost visceral experience, to seeing something that has been shot on film, with an image harvested and color timed to absolute and undeniable perfection.

That is The Natural on Blu-ray  --  a wonderful representation of the cinema, pressed to a tiny disc, played back via a technology which allows the look and feel of film to shine through.

The Natural is Blu-ray done right.

Perfect.

Very Highly Recommended.

I watched The Natural (for the umpteenth time since a theatrical viewing in 1984) shortly after the Blu-ray streeted and I whole heartedly agree that the presentation is splendid.  I've been a big fan of this film over the years and it always feels like a special gift when a media release does justice to one of your favorites.

The production design, costuming, and cinematography (to name some of the facets of this film) are all wonderfully presented.  For this fan, it was a real treat to experience the film again on Blu-ray.
