My theater is nearing completion, and the woodwork trim is being put in.The design includes columns on the walls that are about 12'' wide and 4' deep, with a light sconce. the wall space in between is to be fabric covered(over foam batting). the entire underlying walls including underneath the wooden columns has soundboard then drywall. But the columns are basically hollow.Do the columns have to be filled in also to avoid acoustic issues? Thanks in advance for any help, input ,or ideas!

If they are well built they shouldn't need to be.  Mine were built out of 3/4" MDF, screwed and glued together.  They are hollow, and 4 have cut outs for the speakers that are mounted inside.

The columns should be loose packed with pink insulation, like a riser. You want to avoid them becoming resonant cavities (like a drum).

I did as TeddM stated. Figured it was cheap and easy enough to do so why chance it.
