Win $250 Or AVATAR On Blu-ray Plus News And Reviews

visa_rightcliq_HTF_banner_300x250.jpgWe would like to welcome everyone to the April Edition of the Home Theater Forum Newsletter.  This month we will talk about new features added to our platform as well as multiple contests that you can enter and win some cool prizes.  Of course, we'll point you to the hottest reviews and discussions happening within the forum itself.

Let's begin by quickly looking back at our biggest event over the past month, our live chat with the team at Warner Home Entertainment Television and Animation. The turnout was incredible -- well over 160 people attended the online event and for 3 hours select participants were able to ask the studio about current and upcoming releases. We have posted the transcript of the entire chat that you can read by clicking here.

Finally, before we get into the meat of this month's Newsletter we would like to welcome our two newest Moderators, Mike Frezon and Joseph DeMartino.  Both Mike and Joe have been long-standing forum members who have made significant contributions to other members and the forum itself.  We are pleased to be able to offer them the position of Moderator and were very excited that they accepted. Please be certain to offer congratulations when you see them on the board.

HTF ANNOUNCEMENTS

mylist200.jpgWe are very excited announce a newly added feature to the platform that we have no doubt will be of interest to all our members -- after all, it was all of you who asked us to provide you with a means of uploading pictures of your home theater to a database where you can share it with others.

...and it couldn't be easier.  We have put together an easy-to-follow tutorial on how to create, upload and share your own home theater list with everyone else.

I just spent a small portion of my day taking pictures of my home theater room and individual gear.  I then created my own list, did a search for the equipment I owned and then uploaded the photos from my computer. Once the list was done, I was surprised to find that the database matched me with other members who owned the same equipment I did, giving me the opportunity to look at their list page as well. Here is my personal home theater list.

We hope that you have become inspired to put together your own list and share it with out community.

BOX OFFICE WEEKEND

Now in its fourth weekend, DreamWorks' How To Train Your Dragon managed to take in an additional $20 million placing it at the top of the box-office charts.  Be certain to join in  onreview and discussion of this film.  You can also talk about other current theatrical films in our movies area.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT......

Robert A. Harris is a film historian and preservationist who specializes in restoring the large-format widescreen films of the 1950s.

This month Mr. Harris takes a look at a true classic, Fritz Lang's 1931 M.

Let me quote you one of the the very first lines of Robert's review:

"It is extremely seldom that films from the early talkie era appear on Blu-ray, and even more seldom when they truly represent the film that is intended to be encoded to the disc."

We know you will want to read the rest of his opinion and you can do so by clicking here.

We also invite you to read Mr. Harris as he offers A Few Words About....The Princess and the Frog on Blu-ray.

SOFTWARE REVIEWS

catalogbd250.jpgThree popular catalog titles have caught the attention of reviewer Matt Hough this month.

Matt first checks out Disney's release of Armageddon on Blu-ray. Though this is not the ultimate edition that most of us had hoped for, Matt does feel that at least it's reference quality.

Matt also takes a look at Disney's release of Tombstone, another catalog favorite for which he finds, "Tombstone makes for a gorgeous looking and sounding Blu-ray release."

Finally, Matt reviews the 1985 hit Cocoon and concludes, "The Blu-ray release looks better than it has ever looked on home video and comes with a definite recommendation.

Meanwhile, Kevin Koster reviews two popular catalog releases from Universal, Dune and Apollo 13, giving them both high marks on overall Blu-ray presentation quality.

Richard Gallagher reviews the Blu-ray release of The Natural, which sports a worthy transfer but unfortunately, is not the Director's cut that it is advertised to be.

Some new TV shows on DVD reviews this month include I Love Lucy The MovieSimon & Simon Season Four andPerry Mason Season 5, Volume 1.

Be sure to check out our official review archive filled with thousands of Blu-ray and DVD titles.
