HTF E-Mail Newsletter not received...

Fellas:

I just heard from a fellow member that an HTF Newsletter was e-mailed to members this week.  I didn't receive it, even though I have the box checked in my profile to receive e-mail newsletters.

For the record, my profile account is set up as the following:

Subscriptions Updates:  No e-mail
Send PMs and BB Posts via E-mail:  Not checked.
Receive HTF E-mail Newsletters:  Checked.
Subscribe to content/Edit by Default:  Checked.

Yet, no e-mail newsletter.  I also did not get another HTF newsletter that went around awhile back (I remember Sam started a thread on it.)  And, if there have been any other newsletters in-between, I haven't gotten any of them.

I don't have a spam filter on my e-mail account so I can't be losing them anywhere else and I usually don't have any problems with my e-mails.

Bottom line:  since the switchover, I haven't received any HTF newsletters.

The probably are now using the Best Buy coupon mailer filtering software.

I just about fell out of my chair laughing!  Inside joke as Mike is never sent Best Buy Reward Zone Member Coupons.

Mike-
I'll take a look. I know with spam rules and regulations we err on the side of caution when sending out emails.  If there ever was a bounce or other problem in sending to your account, your email would be removed from the list farther down the chain from your account settings.  I'll see if I can track down what happened to it and get it put back on the list.

Looking at your settings I'm also investigating if you not receiving subscription updates is overriding your newsletter preference.

Mike-
I had a test newsletter sent to your address to see if you get that.  Your settings look good in your profile and your email is on the list of recipients with our email provider.    We are reaching out to them to see if they can help us troubleshoot it.

Adam:

Ask Cristina if in order to get newsletters even if you subscribe to them if you also have to have the email notification enabled.

Mike has

Subscriptions Updates:  No e-mail
Send PMs and BB Posts via E-mail:  Not checked.
Receive HTF E-mail Newsletters:  Checked.
Subscribe to content/Edit by Default:  Checked.

According to the way that the emails work does he have to have the Subscription Updates and Send PMs and BB Posts via Email enabled too in order to get the newsletter?

I asked and was told that his settings were fine.  His email is also on the recipient list of the last newsletter, so I don't know why it didn't make it to him.

Don't know if anything was "done"...but I received the newsletter today.

Go figure.

I'm trying to verify if that is the test email or the original one.

UPDATE: According to Cristina: "The test will say (Preview) in the subject line and it will have something like %%Username%% in the header rather than your name."

Based on that you should be able to tell if it was the real deal or the test.

We did some more digging today and your ISP blocked it.  We run a pretty tight email ship to stay on everyone's white list. but somehow we pissed off your ISP as they blocked us on 4/10. They blocked us before as well (dates at the bottom).  We have requested that they unblock us:

Cloudmark Sender Intelligence                       : Not blocked by this list
Spamhaus (ZEN)                                               : Not blocked by this list
Return Path Sender Score Reputation Score  : 100
MAPS RBL-Plus                                               : Not blocked by this list
Road Runner Internal Name-Based Block       : Not blocked by this list
Road Runner Internal IP Address-Based Block : Mail Refused - X.X.X.X - See http://postmaster.rr.com/mail_blocks.htm#directspam - 20100410
Return Path Reputation Network Blacklist    : Not blocked by this list

Prior Block History for X.X.X.X
blocked on 20100325; removed on 20100329
blocked on 20090902; removed on 20100303

Note: I replaced our mail IP address with X.X.X.X

I don't begin to understand much of this, Adam.  Are those other dates when you sent the other newsletters?  Do they think you are spam?

Is there anything I can do?

We were blocked from 9/2/09 - 3/3/10, from 3/25/10 - 3/29/10 and again from 4/10/10 - tomorrow (?) so odds are that covered most of our newsletters.  RR thinks the server we are using is a SPAM server because some of their users are marking emails they are receiving from it as SPAM.  We use a legitimate email provider.  Unfortunately people sign up for newsletters when buying products, registering SW, etc, decide later they don't want them and mark them as SPAM instead of unsubscribing (I'm talking about legitimate commercial email, not Viagra or fake watch ads).  RR then blocks our mail server as a result.  We work with a professional mail company to stay on white lists, and as you can see RR is the only one on the list blocking us.  We have requested to be unblocked.  Not sure how long it will last.  I'm not sure if it will do you any good to complain to RR, but I'll send you the IP so you can try.  All we can do is request that they unblock us when we find out they do.

That is odd as I am a RR user too. I guess each RR server in a particular area sets its own black list.

Mike has the subdomain of nycap in his email address.  I'm sure its a local server/mail system issue.

Don't know how to explain this now...but today I received the HTF newsletter about the Kenneth Johnson chat!

IIRC, that would be the first HTF newsletter I've ever received to my home e-mail address without some kind of TEST being involved!

I should go to the mailbox and see if there are any Best Buy coupons in today's mail!

Should I also be getting it at my hometheaterforum.com addy?

Was it just about the chat?  There was a "regular" newsletter that went out earlier this week that also mentioned the chat along with some contests and the standard stuff.  I had a reminder email about the chat sent out yesterday that only mentioned the chat.  You should only be getting it on the email address in the admin panel of your user name--I am assuming it is still your RR address.  If you didn't get the first message from this week let me know and I'll verify that it was RR blocking it (again).

Thanks, Adam.  Found it!  it was sent on October 1st.

I had completely missed it amidst a thousand "Content Has Been Reported" e-mails...
