Connecting new Receiver

My old Yamaha, which I had used to run the amplifier section on my new A/V setup seems to have finally gone out on me. It keeps switching off unpredictably, and I have tried all the connection and cable fixes I can come up with. So I finally broke down and bought a Pioneer VSX1019AH. But now I am faced with re-cabling. Since the Yamaha didn't have HDMI, I ran A/V cables from my Oppo Blu-Ray to it. Now I can use HDMI, but I am confused about where what goes.

I have a wall-mounted Toshiba TV, Oppo Blu-ray DVD, TiVo HD DVR, and the Pioneer. Currently the 2 HDMI cables from the Toshiba go to the TiVo and the Oppo. Where do they go now? I have an optical cable that went from the audio port on the TiVo to an optical audio port on the Yamaha. I presume this now goes to the Pioneer. But I am befuddled about the correct HDMI cabling.

Please help.

Use HDMI cable from Tivo to Pioneer, and HDMI from Oppo to Pioneer. Then use an HDMI from Pioneer to tv.

Double check Pioneer's owner's manual, that you set it up for audio and video over HDMI. In the Oppo's setup menus, set it to output audio as "Bitstream". In Tivo's setup menus, set it to output audio as Dolby Digital.  Then you should be good to go............ You shouldn't need the optical cable now. The Pioneer handles both audio and video over HDMI.
Good luck!

Thanks so much. I was thrown off by the Pioneer manual saying: "If you want to listen to the sound of the TV over the receiver, connect the receiver and TV with audio cables." They show a diagram with an HDMI and optical cable going to the Pioneer. I presume what your'e saying is that connecting from the TiVo doesn't require this.

Right.

Actually, in the diagram, the HDMI is going from the Pioneer, not to it. A tv doesn't have an HDMI output, that I know of. The optical cable is going to the Pioneer from the tv, for the audio from the built-in tuner. Using a cable or sat box, the audio and video comes from it, not the tv.

Again, you're not listening to the sound of the tv. You're listening to the sound of the cable box (Tivo DVR). To listen to the sound of the tv, you need to use the internal tuner, while hooked up to an antenna, instead of cable.
Enjoy!
