The Masters 2010

I didn't get tickets this year, so sitting in the office.  Live coverage on my Iphone or online starts at 10 AM though!

Anyone see that Tiger Woods Nike commercial?
I figure now that Tiger has so much more time to actually practice golf he should run away with this one.
If they could have CGI'd Earl Woods slapping Tiger upside the back of his head and saying "What were you thinking, son?" I'd give some props to that Nike ad.  But as it is, it's a merely a head-scratcher.

That is really a moronic commercial.

Anyone who knows anything about Earl Woods realizes that in Tiger's case, the apple did not fall far from the tree.

That Nike add is just their attempt to start to repair Tiger's image so they can sell more golf equipment and apparel.  I thought using his deceased father's voice was rather tactless.

As for the tournament, I think Tiger will struggle. When he came back too soon for the U.S. Open after his father passed away, he failed to make the cut.  That is the only past experience that we have to compare to this for him.

Steve, I am very jealous that you've been to the tourney before. I've never been to Augusta, but would love to some day. A friend went for the first time this year (to Monday's practice round) and spoke glowing words about the place.

I would like to see either Ernie Els or Steve Stricker win.
How about an ad where Tiger has a blonde on each arm while strutting through some high-end nightclub? With appropriate pimp attire, of course.
I went to a Monday practice round at Augusta in '98 or '99, even saw Tiger and Greg Norman in the same practice group for a couple of holes.  The place was immaculate, the fairways were puttable, the greens seemed really fast, though.

I take it you have never putted on a PGA regulation Green. I had the pleasure of playing media day at the US Open once, compared to a regular Green that you and I would normally play, a tourney Green is like putting on a sheet a marble.

I'm fortunate enough to have a business relationship with two members.  Have a couple of friends that work there and they play the following Monday.  Have not played it, yet.

I basically quit playing golf when the prices just kept skyrocketing in the early-to-mid 2000s (after playing a lot during the 1990s and early in the late 1980s), so I've only putted on crap public courses, and some country club courses.  My enjoyment-to-expenditure ratio was diminishing at an alarming rate, so I just quit hanging with my golfing buddies on the weekends and only rarely have the urge to take some practice range swings every other year, it seems.

I play during the week a lot.  Local course, $20 for twilight.  During summer can get in 21-22 holes after work.

I didn't know it was Turn Back the Clock Week at the Masters.
I play in an evening golf league, plus usually get out on Saturday mornings. With the depressed economy in southeastern Michigan, we can usually find a deal on green fees. Unfortunately, our golf season is short up here -- usually April through October.  I just got out for the first time this year last weekend. However, last year I was able to play until Thanksgiving due to the unusually mild autumn we enjoyed.

As for round 1, the old guys looked good. I doubt that either Couples or Watson can keep it together for four rounds, but it would be great to see it happen.  Freddie's putter cannot possibly hold up for four rounds on those greens.
That's my take, too: Couples and his back, plus the changing pin positions on the weekend will make it tough for him to score consistently, and Watson may just run out of steam again.

The Leaderboard going into Saturday is ridiculous.  No way to predict the winner.

It might not happen, but I'll take my chances with Tiger winning this tournament.

In regards to Tiger and his wife problems - the wife is  certainly very attractive. I cannot see why he would "play around" with others. I think that in today's world , this happens many times in the USA to people not in the lime light like Tiger. I understand that there is/was someone flying an airplane with various "anti-Tiger" comments.

I don't understand your point about the people in the USA.  Please, clarify.

I think it's quite easy to see. I see it as a combination of elements. When this whole thing broke, he had indicated that after the kids came the sex life between him and his wife went out the window (which I think is certainly not uncommon in marriages). I would imagine the since he was focused on playing Golf all his life he never had much chance to sow many wild oats. It seems he wasn't ready for marriage in the first place (and since so much money rode on his previously clean image, I would not be surprised if he was pressured into marriage). And really the biggest thing is that no matter how much you love your wife, there's very few things in life more exciting than "new p*ssy" even if the chick is not as attractive as your wife, and when you're a huge celebrity like Tiger and you're on the road a lot and have 24/7 access to women who are willing to have sex with you, you're probably eventually going to cave in. Say you're on a diet and while you're on that diet, every room you walk into has a piece of moist, delicious cake sitting there, you're gonna eventually eat some.

Because he's a morally-bankrupt jackass. Plain and simple.

Eh, I always have this thought about Tiger:

If a woman told her husband she was cheating, and she chased him out of the house with a golf club, crashed in the back window of the car, and is seen in photos above her with a club in hand and her banged up, how long would we talk about the cheating, and how much time would we spend on the spousal abuse?

It was a terrible thing he did by cheating, sure.  The Sex Rehab thing is ridiculous.  He should have just divorced her, said "I learned my lesson, here's $50M, go away" and then just went back to being a bachelor.  He's a billionaire with opportunites.    That's all.

I'm hoping he wins.

Then again, I would have loved for his first press conference to went more like "Yes, I did those things.  Yes, they were wrong.  Anyone chasing down John Daly and his wife over her bust for running a Meth Lab?  What I did was morally wrong, but legal, and has no penalties on the golf course.  Everything was consensual.  Now, if you don't mind me, I'm going out on that golf course and I'm going to beat some a-- like I'm a dominatrix at Mardi Gras.."

(note, this quote has been stolen from several ESPN.COM posters who used it, and I liked it)

Do you actually think she would go away for 50 million when her potential payday is 10 times that amount or more? He is trying to avoid a divorce because the financial ramifications are enormous, but why she is sticking around is anyone's guess.
Yes, I believe she would.  If he wanted it to be messy, he'd just press charges on her for spousal abuse and give her nothing.  That would have been my advice for him the night of the accident.  Plenty of pictures of her with golf clubs, him messed up, broken back window. bam, escape, maybe a douche, but no money paid.

The reason why you settle for say, $50, is because you do it and you walk away.  Tiger may be "worth" tons of money, but he's been incorporated for a very long time.  Sorting out what of that money is viable to go her way would be a great expense on her, and more then that, she might not end up with nearly as much as you'd think.. His corporate holdings are considered worth more then $1B, but that doesn't mean any of it is liquid, or could even be made liquid.  So you take what you can get instantly and you walk.  :)

Actually, it's reported that her amount in the prenup is very low, less than $50M, and then he will pay monthly child support.  Which could be $100,000 a month, or whatever they deem neccessary.  But it's not that much.

I'm not sure she will be. She didn't go to the Masters. That's pretty telling, and more women are still coming out of the woodwork. I also wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't enormous pressures for her not to seek divorce as well. As was said, he's incorporated, so it worth a lot of money to people that there's at least an attempt to salvage the marriage.

It's probably bullshit, but one of the rumors at first was that the insurance companies wanted to got after Elin for going after him with the golf club.

There are some women, not all women, but some women who are happy to try to take a spouse for all he's worth especially when there's tons of money involved. They'll claim they need $50,000 a month in child support for example. There are plenty on divorce horror stories out there.

I don't understand your problem with my statement. If this was a, for example, a british web site, I might have said England. My point was  not meant to be a negative comment on the US.  I wanted to say, that I am sure that in a large country such as the US, there are many "incidents" that don't go beyond the local news because the people envolved are not famous such as Tiger. This could happen anyplace in the world (perhaps not in Iran). "Incidents" might also include gun-shooting . My parents also had problems but I don't think you read about that. I am relative certain that many marriage problems don't make the headlines nationally. I asked a friend if he ever had arguments with his wife and he laughed. I am also believe that many marriage problems are due to both of the spouses.

I think that Tiger was stupid to let this happen. We really don't know both sides of the issue. I am in agreement with post 20 by "WillG". There are people who are gifted in one area and not another area, such as Richard Wagner.  I hope things will work out so that Tiger and his wife makeup. In regards to the Masters, it would be very nice if Couples could win

I didn't understand the point you were trying to make so I asked for clarification.  It that's having a problem then so be it.  Also, since Tiger Woods might be the most famous athlete in the world and is on his way to being the richest, the coverage of his marriage problems can't be equated to average folks dealing with the same type of issues.  Furthermore, when you're a money making machine that promotes buying certain products, you're under a lot more scrutiny because you're basically a salesman for those companies selling their products.

Yay for Lefty!  He basically won it with his ridiculous second shot on the 13th hole, that was just a bold play.
