Nintendo 3DS

While details are a bit slim as of now, the announcement stated the console would incorporate 3D technology without the need for players to wear special glasses. The 3DS will also be backwards compatible with all DS and DSi software.

Nintendo says this new portable machine will "succeed" the DS series. As of December 2009, the DS console has sold 125 million units worldwide.

The Toys R Us flyer today was advertising the XL.  I guess they're relying on those who won't hear about the 3DS or won't care.  I was interested in an XL, but there's no way I'll bite until I know all about the 3DS system and say, "That's not for me."

Rumored: analog stick, accelerometer, rumble, better graphics.

The DSi XL is coming out in the next couple months.  The 3DS will probably be out this coming holiday season, at the earliest, and because of the extra tech I'm guessing that it will cost more than the XL.

I'm an optical engineer so I've been reading up on the tech that the 3DS could use and I'm definitely intrigued.  I can't wait to see what it does when E3 rolls around.

I wouldn't expect the 3DS till 2011 fall/holiday...    but i'm sure they will provide a concrete release data at E3

The whole idea of a handheld 3D system (with no need for 3d Glasses etc.) has me very interested..

It's actually coming out in three days.

Ahh, I was under the impression it was coming in May but I stand corrected.

Official details:

I preordered one just now, more to share with my nephews than genuine interest on my own, but we will see....

Price the same as the original price for the Wii.  Not really a surprise.  I have to decide if I'm going to do a preorder and make a midnight launch, or hope for the best for the next day.  Your article lists launch games, but IGN and other sites say nothing has been nailed down for day one, but the list of games is targeted between March 27 and June 7.  Either way, there's plenty for me to play until the real big one (for me) hits--Paper Mario.  Zelda looks more awesome than I could have hoped:

Gyro first-person aiming FTW!

Same as the DS - debate between waiting a few months for more games/supply or waiting a full year to buy a second gen one.  Sometimes, I feel like Nintendo hardware is similar to Apple hardware.  Even if it doesn't get a new version in a year, it will at least get better packaging or more in the box.

But I will absolutely buy one.

I've been counting the days since it was first revealed.  I'll hate if there's a spiffy new one in a year, but I'll decide at that time if it's worth an upgrade.

Can't wait to get an XL on clearance. :)

Got my Amazon preorder in.  I decided not to risk a sellout at Fry's.  I'm hoping they'll have games in stock, but the ones I'm interested in aren't due yet anyway.

Sounds like a totally new "E-shop" lets you tie content to an account rather than device.

More 3DS goodness.  The system can produce some nice visuals.

I preordered one. I also preordered the new Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid games for it.

I might also order Kid Icarus, Paper Mario and Mario Kart

I make a part-time job for 3DS. Just a few week can pre-order too.

Not sure what you are saying there Anndrew, might be a language issue?

The bottom right square looks particularly good.  I'm assuming there will be some cool news all day from this show, but I can't get to it right now.

I think the best answer right now is to just have a lot of money.  I'm already sold on the 3DS, but I'm not going to knock the NGP like the YouTube kiddies.  I've got a iPhone 4, and I need to head over and read the Apple stuff now.  I'm very interested in the iPad 2.  I'm glad Nin is expanding beyond the Gameboy Color games they had previously announced on VC.  Hopefully, it'll end with everything up to at least the N64 being available for the 3DS.

Not sure I'm going to open my 3DS or hope that it's rare enough to resell when it arrives.

Anywho, confirmation that in May there will be a way to copy over all your previous DSi purchases...

I'm starting to buy used DSi games now to catch up a nice library when it launches and I get one I will keep.  What's your favorites and games I shouldnt miss, console exclusive wise?

Amazon kicks in a $25 credit, good even if you've had it preordered like me for months!

Do I have to do anything to have it added to my preorder?

Nope

Opening day is Sunday right?  My Amazon order says I'll get it by the 30th, wonder if I have any chance of it arriving Monday or earlier instead...  Sunday launches BLOW.

Sam - That's why you preorder at a real store :)

Amazon just told me they shipped mine. Maybe I will get it Monday instead of Tuesday. I was using the Prime trial, and it's pretty cool seeing the tracking showing it arriving locally just hours after it ships.
