Well here we are four months into the 75th Anniversary and so far all we have seen are the doubles, triples, and quads of previously released tittles.  Nothing, not even hints or rumors of anything new for the past two months.  I must say that I am disappointed.  With the hints that were put out during the announcement of the program, I had hoped that official announcements of titles not previously released would be forthcoming.  But alas not. Where is A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN and CAVALCADE and the others that were hinted at.

I have been very underwhelmed by the Fox 75th .

75th Anniversary or not... Fox won´t release anything unless they can make money.  It´s really that simpel.

Simple or not . It still sucks if you are interested in classic movies .

But they sure did get our hopes up with the hints that were released.  It is simple, I am very disapointed so far.  Perhaps this would be a great time to to start a MOD program.

I agree. There are countless Fox films that I am dying to purchase if made available. I was hoping they would have continued some of the collections that they had made. The Ford at Fox collection was excellent as was the Hitchcock collection.

I would purchase a Henry Fonda at Fox collection as well as a Jimmy Stewart at Fox collection.

With the economy and just in general I feel that a MOD program would do wonders. Even if the economy is good, there is no way for every film to be released as it is not cost prohibitive.

The MOD program opened the doors for many films that I never thought I'd get a chance to see or even own. Warner's was a lifesaver as it really broadened my film viewing horizons.

I only wish that the Universal MOD program was continued as there are a lot of movies I would buy.

I also wish that the MGM one was better as they are releasing movies non OAR and Non Anamorphic which this day in age is very bad.

I truly feel that every company should in some way or form do a MOD program or license out their movies ala Paramount and Olive films otherwise there will be many films that will NEVER see the light of day, and that is a shame.

The Warner archive has gotten more of my money than it really should but I feel that it is worth it.

We will have a box set later this year celebrating 75 years of 20th Century Fox - it will include Cavalcade. The remaining episodes of Voyage... will be out by the end of the year and Elia Kazan's A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN is also coming with a lot more Kazan. I will confirm when I can...

Good to hear!  I doubt the incredibly rare Fox Best Picture nominees The White Parade and East Lynne will be included, but still good to hear some confirmation.

i will be buying!

it also would be great to see some more fox musicals like 'coney island' (betty grable at her most spectacular!), 'my gal sal' (with rita hayworth), 'diamond horseshoe', 'sweet rosie o'grady',  'wabash avenue', etc. being released this year. fox is sitting on at least 20 musicals from that era.

the fox musicals were always renowned for their vivid technicolor, and it is really a crime that so many of these films-particularily grable's canon- have never made it to dvd!

if you restore and release them, we will buy!!!

FOX's 75th Anniversary release schedule has been lackluster this year. What are they waiting for December? I haven't bought one FOX title released so far this year (on DVD or Blu-ray)

After thinking about this for a minute, you are right.  The only Fox title I have purchased this year was TORA TORA TORA Blu-ray from England.  That is a pretty sad affair.  However I do expect to purchase THE SOUND OF MUSIC in Blu-ray latter this year.

I am concerned about the Fox Box set that Mr. Finn speaks of.  While it will include CALVALCADE, will the other films in the set be new to DVD or re-releases.  I can just see a box set like the musicals they did two years ago with 100 titles, 97 re-releases and three new to DVD.  And the only way to get the new titles was to buy the set.  I did not buy then and if, and it is an if, Fox sells it like that again, I will not have CALVALCADE in my collection.

Dear Fox,  you have announced a big expensive set fo Sound of Music on Blu Ray later this year -

Could you bother to tell us why it is so expensive and what is in it?

Finn, any chance we could twist your arm to issue the obscure classic "Trick for Trick" (1933) on DVD?  NY's MoMA has shown it in recent years, but it's hard to find outside of occasional revival screenings.

I am a bit leery of double-dipping too, but I don't think they are liable to pull anything like that again (and, yes, I'm also burned that I still can't own those two Cantors as a result).  I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on a botched last-ditch MGM burn-off.  20th Century Fox has been carting out those 4-in-one sets featuring what appears to be a large majority of their previously released discs (though without the booklets the Cinema Classics/Marquee Musical releases had), so if they are going to port those releases yet again in a large set with a mere handful of new titles, they're off their nut.  I'd prefer the other way around---a set with only a handful of previously released films, if any at all, and mostly new releases.

The Kazan set will very likely have at least one double dip, but there's a good chance I'll bite even if its just to own that one new film (please, I hope there's more new content in that set--namely VIVA ZAPATA!, MAN ON A TIGHTROPE, and WILD RIVER)

I actually just finished watching the excellent MURNAU, BORZAGE, AND FOX set, and along with FORD AT FOX, I was thinking that Raoul Walsh is a bit neglected in the picture.  I hold out a vain hope that a "RAOUL WALSH AT FOX" will one day surface

For rare Oscar nominated films from Fox, how about East Lynne (1931) with Ann Harding or Berkeley Square (1933) with Leslie Howard? I'd love to see those, either with or instead of Calvalcade (1933). All three of those films were directed by Frank Lloyd, best known today for directing MGM's Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Working for Fox in the 1930s, he also did A Passport to Hell (1932) with Elissa Landi, Hoop-La (1933) with Clara Bow, Servants' Entrance (1934) with Janet Gaynor, and Under Two Flags (1936) with Ronald Colman & Claudette Colbert. A box set with all 7 of those ultra-rare films, a Classic Directors: Frank Lloyd at Fox set, that's something I'd go in for. That would be a nice celebration of their 75th Anniversary.

Or how about a box set with the 20 or so movies produced from 1933-1935 under the banner of 20th Century Pictures, before the merger with Fox Films? They can also throw in a some of the first films produced under the new "20th Century-Fox" banner.  That would be another nice way to celebrate their history.

I say they should do a box sets of  The best (best existing?) "20th Century Pictures" and "Fox Film" titles as "20th Century and Fox before 20th Century Fox" :) One or two films from each year durring the sound era prior to the merger - and no double dipping. :)

Is there still no information on the "Quad" set #10...? It should surely be out by now, but doesn't seem to exist...

Set #10 is sitting on the shelf next to all those new to DVD titles that have been hinted at.

Classic Quads 16-18 are listed at Amazon for October 5 release date.  No info on the titles yet (or Quad #10).

They are also releasing two 15-disc sets on the same day - Leading Ladies Collection and Leading Men Collection.

Oh God, yes! Only 13 left, it has been like pushing out a kidney stone getting this series. Thank you!

Hey, any chance of Lost in Space getting the clean up treatment? The original release was, well, disappointing.

Let's see , it's August and still no new classic dvd titles . Doesn't look so good to me .

It kills me that Fox used to be one of the best out there for classic movie and tv dvd . And now over the last couple of years nothing to write home about .

I was hoping with this tease of an announcement they might be getting back in the game .

Fat chance i guess !

The studio doesn't care about their classic library Just look at FOX MOVIE CHANNEL - the same handful of classic (1930's-1940's ) films get rotated and rerotated over-and-over-again - There are many films that haven't turned up in the last 18 months. They release what sells - and rerelease, and repackage over-and-over again. I'll be bold and say if we get 5 new-to-DVD-classics before the end of the year, that's alot - and I'll say one of them will be "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", which has to be the most requested classic title not yet out (Inonicly, it Plays like crazy on FMC!)

These two announce :"Leading" multi-DVD boxes - will most likely be 99% reissues, with a couple of 'new' thrown in.

At this point i'll even take the couple new throw ends .

Lou Lumenick writes about 75th Anniversary of 20th Century Fox at Lincoln Center this year.  Another big disappointment from Fox.

Here's what's included in Leading Ladies and Leading Men sets.

Leading Ladies - "Anastasia", "All About Eve", "The Best of Everything", "Blood and Sand", "Cleopatra", "Desk Set", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "The Girl Can't Help It", "How To Steal A Million", "Laura", "Peyton Place", "My Blue Heaven", "One Million Years B.C.", "The Rains Came" and "The Snake Pit".

Leading Men - "An Affair to Remember", "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "Call of the Wild", "The Comancheros", "Desk Set", "A Farewell to Arms", "Gentleman's Agreement", "Grapes of Wrath", "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison", "The Hustler", "Love Me Tender", "The Mark of Zorro", "No Way Out", "The Towering Inferno" and "Von Ryan's Express".

Doesn't look like it has any new titles.
