Center channel speaker damaged by heathen *newb*

My rambunctious 2 year-old pulled the cheap plastic grill from my center channel speaker, and pushed his thumbs into all the areas that could be wrecked with tiny but powerful force. This has all but ruined the sound of my system. I had been enjoying pretty decent DD for the last year and I miss it badly.

What should I do? Try to take the unit apart and push back the depressed areas from the other side? Or, just buy a better speaker? I have a Yamaha RX-V363 HTIB.

Thanks for reading!

I suppose you could try and remove the drivers to see if you could fix them but I doubt you would be too successfull. Looking at ebay I see a Yamaha NS-AP7600 center speaker as a "Buy-It-Now" for $39.99. Might be a close enough match to what you have and is probably a bit better. They have 4 at that price and they're listed for 25 more days so no hurry.

Welcome to Home Theater Forum Paul.  Do you have a shop vac?  Assuming the cones are just pushed in and not ripped, could you try to see if you could "suck" them back out?  only 14 more years until he does it to (or with) the car.

Thanks for the advice, fellas. I took it apart and pushed the majority of the indentions back out.

Upon further research, I see that an upgrade of my center channel might be the best move to improve my current setup. I've got my eye on a Cerwin Vega VE-5C. Ninety bucks on ebay.

Any suggestions?

CV isn't known for their accurate sound.  But compared to HTiB speakers with their dust caps and tweeter domes pressed in, it should be a huge upgrade.
