I like Gruber's latest essay:

Here's my perspective on it:  Despite the market share imbalances Microsoft has ceased to be an impetus for Apple to keep being one step ahead.  They needed a new villain.  Google is the only other company out there who can give them a run for the money.  Competition is good, it will help keep Apple honest and at least a LITTLE more open to criticism.  It's gonna be a fun ride.

Competition is good. Warfare is not.

If it's as hostile as described, this is not going to be "fun". It could instead lead to setbacks as Apple and Google fight to keep each other at bay and restrict products.

This could get really ugly with the consumer having to make some hard decisions as to which company they want to support.
