Pioneer VSX 23THX - Not enough Audio (Analog) Inputs

Thread Starter

I have a situation where I don’t have enough “Audio” inputs on my Pioneer VSX 23 TXH. I am using the receiver mostly for Music (2 channel sources…..Vinyl, CD, Tape, etc). I need another audio input for my MP3 player. (I don’t have an IPod, otherwise I’d be set). I have a mini headphone plug that splits into left/right RCA plugs that I would like to plug into the MP3 player and plug the RCA’s into the receiver. I’ve used it on my old receiver connected to the “Aux-In” with no issues.

Would it cause any harm to the receiver / would it work, if I used one of the “Spare” Red/White Audio inputs from a “video” source that I don’t use. (i.e., use the Red/White Audio-In) on either the “Video” In or DVR In (Audio inputs).

I appreciate any help from the group.  Thanks

There should be no problem using the audio portion only of a audio/video input on your receiver.  There just will be no video to route to your display. No harm in that.

It depends on the player, some do not have sufficient voltage on the minijack output to properly feed signal to a receiver.  You'll have to try it out and see how it sounds.  If the level is low, you may need something like a headphone amp to boost the signal.
