Recommend me a remote

I'm currently in the market for  an HTPC remote and am looking for some recommendations.  My absolute price cap is $200.  I won't spend a nickel more than that.

I have looked around quite a bit online but everything starts to look the same after a while.  Any help?

I will need the remote to control all of the following:

Philips DVD player
Sony receiver
Toshiba TV
Sony surround system
Cable box
PC

I've been using a Harmony One for about 3 months now. It replaced 6-7 remotes. I thought it was pretty easy to setup and it works all my gear. They can be had for under $200.

Does Harmony One control a computer like a mouse, or at least a Media Center via buttons?
I use Gyration Media Control, was $70 or so, and is a RF air-mouse combined with learning IR remote for 3-4 devices.

I don't know the answer to that one. You can check this thread. www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php Use the search or ask a question

That was going to be my next question as well.  As per your advise I bought a Harmony One today.  I mentioned that a PC was one of the items it must be able to control and was disappointed to find that there was no IR Receiver included.

I run a PC which is dedicated as an HTPC and runs MediaPortal, 24/7 (MediaPortal is similar to Windows Media Center). I assume that the remote can control MediaPortal if a USB IR Receiver is plugged in... Am I correct? If so, suggestions on a brand/model?

Anyone?

All Harmony remotes are IR based, learning remotes.  The exception is the 890 which uses an RF to IR base with attached IR emitters.  For the PS3, they offer an IR to Bluetooth adapter.  If your current remotes are IR based, then any Harmony can learn them.  BUT they do not contain a gyroscope so it will not be able to emulate the air mouse.

It looks like you bought the Harmony One without having your most important question answered.

Any model should work.  Most IR receivers accept a wide range of frequencies.  I'm assuming you would just go with a USB IR receiver?

What OS is on your HTPC?

I have a Harmony 880 and can control my XBMC for Windows with it using a USB RC6 IR Receiver for the XP MCE. I then use Intelliremote to map the buttons with keystrokes. Apparently there is a way to get your remote to control your PC without third party software but requires knowledge of the Windows registry. Intelliremote works for me so I haven't bothered to try the Registry solution.

I found the IR Receiver on ebay as they're not made anymore. And it has to be an RC6 type.
