Looks like re-packaged garbage!

I really had my hopes up that they were going to make-up for the previous releases.  How foolish of me.

I wished they re-evaluate their stance against a replacement program for Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection, Vol. 3 so I can finally order and complete the Hanna-Barbara era.

saw the announcement late Friday, i think it was, and to say that i am saddened is putting it mildly. Prior to the full on Blu and WB archives, along with the other studios doing MOD disc, it seemed like more thought was put into collection releases, during the heyday of DVD. We got great packages, and it was well thought out.

What upsets me about this is it is a partial repackage, some award winners from HB and a mix of Chuck Jones. All of this will co-inside with the live action/CGI movie that is being worked on, if they really wanted to make a wave in the eyes of the fans, this should have been a complete, Chronological Theatrical Collection, from HB to Dietch to Jones. if all were restored to the best possible condition, yes i know that some of the materials are not in the best condition, or the original negatives do not exist, but as close as possible, and a two tier release, DVD and Blu  the Blu set could cover everything in 3-4 disc. One day i hope this Duo will get the respect that they deserve.

Same here. I'm frankly surprised to see this, considering the recent rumor was a new chronological series with Looney Tunes Golden Collection standards. Which is, of course, what the Spotlights should have been. Perhaps they'll channel this revenue into that.

Where has anyone said some T&J negatives don't exist?

The final "l" is missing from the actual link; here's a corrected version:

This isn't just a disappointment, it's a tease. For the past year the market's been inundated with cheapie one-disc Tom and Jerry compilations for kids and family, and the first multidisc set in years, and we get THIS?

There are many words I could use to describe the WHV execs who signed off on this, none of them G-rated.
Thank you both for the link. Knowing they're backed up to film (and possibly younger than the original elements anyway), I'd imagine the differences could be handled nicely. What would really prove tricky would be acquiring all those original title cards.

Good to see another episode from my favorite year, 1975 (episode #80-15, "Cosmic Cat And Meteor Mouse") is being released.

(Man, I can just taste that Complete Series set... )

It's simply astounding that WB would included the edited versions of some titles that were acknowledged mistakes on the Spotlight Collection series. It's also astounding to realize the overall amount of editing, re-recording and recropping that's been done to this series. It seems it would take a lot of work to simply return these beloved films to their original presentations.

Wake me when they grant T&J a Looney Tunes Golden Collection-style treatment: fully restored cartoons in a complete, uncut, unedited and chronological series.

Sad that Warner seems to have sacked all their competent employees.

For almost 7 years that I have been coming to this forum, there is one thing that I have been more vocal about than anything else, Tom & Jerry done correctly, maybe its my age, I enjoy The Three Stooges for their violent brand of slapstick, and the same goes for Tom & Jerry. Even more so than Loony Tunes, and in all this time I have seen bad releases, or the cartoons handed over to the animation and TV section, not to fault those people, but let’s be realistic it is, and who ever signed off on this. And much like the long maligned Stooges for years before getting it right, this Comedy Duo still gets no respect, I understand that it’s a business, and trying to get the product out to the masses has its set backs. But the well is starting to run dry, maybe its time that WB got this one right, I know that I don’t speak for any one but myself, but I do have an idea that would be fan/collector approved, first off, it’s the Theatrical Collection that is wanted, no offence, but after Chuck Jones, the TV show is a completely different animal altogether.

The perfect Tom & Jerry Complete Theatrical Collection

Disc 1-6           William Hanna and Joseph Barbara Era

Disc 7              Gene Dietch  Era

Disc 8-9           Chuck Jones Era

Disc 10            Special Features

All special features on all previous spotlight collections, and the deluxe collection need be included, also would like to see some involvement of Gene Dietch, dear god do this soon the man is 85, a feature on Ms Randolph the true voice of Tom & Jerry. Also included should be the Spike and Tyke shorts on the bonus disc. I will state this as plain as possible, treat this like every other MGM title that gets the gold standard treatment, (Wizard of Oz, North By Northwest). In the changing world of home entertainment, and what to do with classic short subject material, it will have to be done correctly, or the well will be dry. After years the Stooges, got what the public wanted, nothing less was longer acceptable. The same is now for Tom & Jerry, Restored to their original MGM gloss, Remastered, Unedited, Chronoligical Order.  If it is a problem, of offending some people because of the material in some of the older toons, make it easy on yourselves, make it a TCM Spotlight collection

I'll second everything you said, Dana.

The way Sony did "The Three Stooges" should be the model for all of classic Hollywood's short subjects, whether live action or animated.

Nothing left out -- nothing cut -- everything remastered -- in chronological order.

What's the big deal?

And if maybe 35 seconds of material will offend a few hundred people, they'll just have to learn to live with it.  We can't change the past.

My objection to the set was that they suspiciously omitted the main title sequences for the 1975 H-B and even the 1980 Filmation made-for-TV Tom & Jerries (though their end credits remain intact!). All in all, it was a complete letdown for all concerned.

as i said, the TV (Saturday morning) set is a completely different animal, and should be released that way, i remember the T&J grape ape show, but creeping towards 50 now, i remember when shorts would play before a movie, the end of that era, even Disney was still doing some, small ones, mostly Pooh, but it was a part of the whole experience, treat the Theatricals as a Theatrical Collection, with all the bells and whistles, and treat the Saturday Morning Programs, as a normal TV season release,
