Three Stooges Collection Vol. 8, June 1 (?)

VideoETA today listed a new Three Stooges Collection from Sony for June 1, 2010.  VideoETA's post does not specify, but I would assume that this is Volume 8.

This is preliminary information, awaiting some type of confirmation/press release from Sony.

I am guessing that the running time listed on VideoETA's page is a mispost/typo; 2 discs may also be suspect, until we know how many years & which films will be covered in this volume.

i can only hope, that the date  is correct, then possibly they can start on all the Columbia films for the next run, with the solo shorts as extras

Isn't this the first time most of these have been released on home video in any format?

Yes.

Columbia licensed a few to GoodTimes back in 1990, for 5 VHS 3-short volumes.

But as far as Columbia goes, only RUMPUS IN THE HAREM (1956) has been released before, on the 1995 Laser Disc box set "The Three Stooges Comedy Classics."

Sony hasn't announced any of its June releases yet, but the information about Vol. 8 may well be accurate. Ron is on the distribution list for press releases so he will post it as soon as it is announced.

I hope this is true. Last time I believed any "rumours", that's all they were. But I'm hoping this is more fact than rumour. My only concern is that 2-disc bit. Hopefully, it really is a 3-disc set keeping with the same 2 slim cases. I'd hate to see them cram all 32 shorts on 2 discs. Is that even possible? Also can't wait to see who they pick for the cover, Shemp or Joe?

I agree with you on the number of discs.  The past volume had 24 shorts on it, including Spooks and Pardon My Backfire Twice.  This release has 32, can someone verify that the two discs can hold this number of shorts at an average of 16min each or a total of 512min total?  I understand that Dual Layer DVD can hold 266 minutes of information so two Dual Layer DVD's should hold 532min of information, but that is cutting it close.

On the other hand, I can not wait to watch these shorts.  I would vote for both Shemp and Joe on the cover.

"I would vote for both Shemp and Joe on the cover."

As do I, similar to how Curly and Shemp were eventually on a cover when we transitioned to the Shemp shorts.

Shemp has been on 2 full covers plus the little circle on Volume 5. I'm hoping Joe gets a full cover photo with Shemp in the circle. It seems fair to give him a little recognition. Can't wait to see what they do. The thing I'm excited about is "A Merry Mix-Up" and my all-time fave "Oils Wells That Ends Well".

Confirmed...

Sony now lists it on its website. It will be a 3-disc set.

Amazon is taking pre-orders for The Three Stooges Collection Vol. 8 1955 - 1959.

It won't be long now. Hopefully, coverart will be revealed this week. Can't wait to see it. I'm so looking forward to this set. I'm actually one of the few that loves the Joe shorts. This is going to be a great set to own.

Very happy to know this will indeed be three discs. It'll be great to see this series cross the finish line!

Thanks Sony!!!

This has been an excellent, excellent series.  Just placed my pre-order.

Amazing to think that 3 years ago Sony put out "Hapless Half-Wits" that only had 4 shorts (2 that had been previously released) that were colorized. And they priced this single DVD monstrosity for $25. Now they're wrapping it up The Stooges without forcing us to buy the end of Shemp and the Joe Besser years as two volumes.

Now I'm confused - the running time doesn't seem right  179 minutes?  That's 11 shorts?
^ I wouldn't worry over the running time listed at Amazon. There isn't even an official press release yet.

It is listed on the Sony site as well at 179 minutes-3 Discs.

"Sony now lists it on its website. It will be a 3-disc set."

It really does not make sense putting 179 minutes on 3 discs and the number of shorts is way over 179 minutes so Sony got it wrong this time. (I hope).

The 32 shorts have a running time of 500+ minutes.  176 minutes references 1 of the 3 discs.

  Now that makes sense.

it could be done in two slim cases, so the set would be basically the same size as the rest, well it been a while since i got to do this with the rest of the knuckleheads on here, so here we go, nuk, nuk, nuk

color for the last set..... Yellow??

 -  3 discs

 -  That artwork will change, somewhat.  The main image will probably stay the same; the montage pics on the right will be replaced to reflect the set's 1955 - 1959 films.

The change in the montage pics is great and I was worried about it.  I am glad the Joe and Shemp get recognized.

Has there been any word on whether or not the De Rita films will be re-released?
How are the existing DVDs of the Stooges' movies?

When I began collecting Three Stooges shorts in the 1980s, it was nearly impossible to find them all, especially the Joe Bessers. Now we have a complete! chronological! dvd collection of the shorts with Joe Besser on a cover! I never thought I would see this day. Thank you Sony/Columbia!
I guess we can now safely assume we are never going to ever see those interviews with the surviving cast that they filmed and the solo shorts. 'Tis a shame.....
Hopefully theyll use those    for a dvd release of, have rocket will travel . Whats the point of those interviews , if youre not going to use them????

Among the reasons we haven't seen the interviews...

Inclusion of newly produced material, with the shorts, raised some legal concerns.  Sounds screwy, but it was a special circumstance, related to a lawsuit filed against Sony by C3 shortly before the chronological sets began.  C3 lost the suit, and the appeal.
