Onkyo TX-SR605 - Sony Blu-Ray BDP-BX2 / BDP-360 Sound problem

Thread Starter

I am just starting to put together my first home theater system, and I am having trouble with my Blue ray player and receiver.

My equipment is:

Onkyo TX-SR605

Sony Blu-Ray BDP-BX2 (Best Buy exclusive) / Same player = BDP-360

SET-UP

I have DVR and Blu Ray player hooked into the receiver with good HDMI cables.

The Receiver is connected to a new Samsung LCD TV.

The DVR cable box works great.

When I play the Blue Ray, the receiver sends a great picture to the TV, but no sound comes from the receiver.

I have tried a lot of setting combinations in the Blue Ray set-up for sound, and nothing works.

When I plug the Blu Ray directly into the TV with HDMI - it works fine, the sound comes out of the TV speakers.

What could be the problem?

Is the Receiver and the Blu Ray compatible?

Did you assign the HDMI input you used on the receiver, for the blu ray player, to the blu ray player? Also make sure the receiver's HDMI setup is set right to output HDMI audio from the input used by blu ray (also part of the digital input assignments, I think).

In blu ray's settings, the output priority should be set to HDMI, and set audio output to "Bitstream".

BTW.............
The Sony BDP-BX2 is not a Best Buy exclusive. It's been at Sam's Club for a long time, and I've seen it at a couple of other places too. I also don't believe it's the same player as the BDP-S360. The BX2 was an economy unit. The BX2, which took the place of the BX1, sold for about $218, when the S360 was still selling for about $349. Now WalMart has the S360 for $128. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sony-Blu-Ray-Disc-Player-BDP-S360/10973178
Good luck!
