I recently bought a Toshiba 42AV635DB:

I wanted 1080p for future-proofing, and also to be able to display the highest possible resolution from our front room PC.
However, when I send a 1920 x 1080 image via a VGA cable, it *looks* like a 1920x1080 desktop is actually being sent, BUT the TV is displaying only ~50% of the image, within a 4:3 area on the TV screen. If I move my mouse to the left or right of this box, the PC desktop pans left and right within this area - i.e. the TV is receiving the full 1080p image, but it is only showing a 4:3 portion of it at any one time (I have black bars on the left and right). It does appear that the full 1080 vertical resolution is being displayed.
Toshiba customer support were worse than useless... any ideas, please? I have tried both a regular VGA cable, and also a DVI->VGA cable running off my DVI output.
The maximum resolution I can display from my PC appears to be 1280x768, everything beyond that results in 'unsupported display format' exceot the 1080p which is displayed, but incorrectly.
Any ideas, please?
