Dear Guys:

Do you think 2010 is starting off better for television releases as opposed to 2009? So far we  have

Scarecrow and Mrs King
The Virginian
Wagon Train
Daria
Matt Houston
Tales of the Told Monkey
Streethawk
Norm
Max Headroom
Marcus Welby
Max Headroom
Falcon Crest

Possibilities
Mothers In Law
Brooklyn Bridge
Frank's Place
Ellery Queen
When Things Were Rotten
Thriller

I'm already thinking for 2009, there was
Bonanza
MANTIS
Werewolf (which as delayed), otherwise we're way ahead of last year.

Think we're dong better?

Wagon Train got its first release in late 2008 so it doesn't belong on the list for 2010.

That's a good list but, as I look at things (50's-60's shows), I think we had a better year last year than this one, so far.  That's just my perception of it but maybe the actual #'s may prove that this year's better than I remember last year.

I'm sure some of this is subjective, James.  For instance, you've listed things for 2010 that I have absolutely no interest in.  And you've left off literally dozens of sets I picked up in 2009.  But overall, I think the numbers will demonstrate that we've got less coming this year than last year.  And there was far more in 2008 than 2009.  We are in a decline if one is looking at vintage TV from the 50's and 60's.  Since I'm generally not interested in shows from the 90's on up I can't speak to release ratios from last year till this.  But for older material we are in a decline, percentage wise.

Gary "we've got some great vintage stuff coming, but we are slightly down from last year" O.

You're probably right, but I was just trying to think of "big" (relative term) first season releases off the top of my head.  And I couldn't think of much besides Bonanza in 2009.

But I was still hoping more stuff from the sixties and seventies might be coming out this year. High hopes indeed, but I was still hoping.

i would be very surprised to see a banner released year of DVD this year. We are in mid march now and if you look at May 2010 and forward there does not appear to be anything major coming out. You add in the fact that Jul-Aug in the past have been very slow month with uptick coming in Septemebr, then you star t to realize that it may be a slow year. A good example of the softness in demand for dvds is go your retail stores like Best Buy/Walmart/Future Shop, etc and see that their dvd section is only one aisle now. However, they do have sales in some locations. I picked up Hart to Hart (1-2) for like $40 last weekend.

Overall. i am quite happy with what i have so for with my collection. April is a good month for me, but, after that i plan to scale back my ordering until the fall. I have the following that i want to pick up this year

1. Enterprise S3
2. Cheers S5
3. Man from Uncle.
4. Voyage to the bottom of the sea (S2, S3 and S4-V1)

I may picked up Marcus Welby in May 2010, but, that is it. I aleady have enough dvds to keep me busy for several years.

James, did you list Max Headroom twice because you're twice as excited its coming out? :-)
All kidding aside, 2010 looks to be the year of the little show that couldn't (but will, thanks to Shout Factory). A whole bunch of possibilities opened up for abandoned shows to make it out this year, including Benson, One Day At A Time, Gimme a Break and others. I'm like a kid in a candy store with all this going on, kind of like when this TV-show-on-DVD business first began.
