Go figure, my wife of all people is asking me to upgrade or add to our system to get some proper audio (i.e. not a boom box with an MP3 input) outside on the deck / patio area. I have a Marantz SR6200 receiver for our main unit but it is going on 10-years old and lacks multi-room output, USB inputs, etc so I either need to spend a ton of $$$$ upgrading the main system or hopefully I can piece something together much cheaper as a stand alone outside system.
Being outside with plenty of ambient noise I am willing to make some sacrifices on the equipment but I don't want junk either. I plan to have 2-speakers outside mounted under my soffit and ideally I would like to drive two more for music in the garage. I am willing to give up CD quality in favor of MP3s if there is an inexpensive way to either read them from a USB drive or my MP3 player. If there is a cheap way to stream from Pandora that would be nice as well. For ease of wiring and accessibly I would like to house the receiver in the garage which is not climate controlled but never goes below 40F or above 105F.
Any ideas on how best to implement this without having to upgrade the main unit and without breaking the bank?
Thanks!
