I own the bare bones Warner Bros. dvd. It's excellent. I just wonder what the theatrical release really looked like, when it was originally released. Does it look like what Mulligan really intended? Are the details and colors right?

I know you're the experts, so please let me know if this is the best it gets!

Thanks Tim

For a general idea of how this movie might look on Blu-Ray you might want to have a look at two other westerns shot in Panavision a few years before and after this one that have already been released in the Blu-Ray format: The Professionals from Sony and Blazing Saddles from Warner look better than any DVD version ever could and you can expect similar quality from The Stalking Moon if the original elements are in comparable shape.

Regarding specific looks and color timing I think it would be impossible to know with any certainty how this one should have looked exactly but for The Stalking Moon to really come close to the look of film you will need both the increased chroma and luma resolution of Blu-Ray - a DVD just won't cut it at appropriate viewing distances.

Is The Stalking Moon rumored to be released on Blu-Ray anytime soon ? If it is count me in :)

edit: I just saw that the great Charles Lang was the camera man on this one - in that case it definitely should look very good on Blu-Ray if the OCN is in good shape.

I saw The Stalking Moon in a movie theatre a long, long time ago. I can't remember the details but I do recall noticing that it was a very handsome-looking movie and thinking that Charles Lang might receive an award for his work.

The DVD does not properly represent what the movie looked like originally on a big screen. It's not a bad DVD though and I recommend it to anyone who wants this very good Western in their collection.
