The HT system I am looking at says it has 167 watts per channel at 6 channels which equals a little over 1000 watts. The info on the system says "Power consumption operational 180 watts" I need to get a generator to run this system with a projector at 280 watts out in the desert. Do I need to get a 1500 W generator or will a 600 W suffice? Any help would be great, thanks.

Hello Steve,
Welcome to the forum.
You can safely use the operational indications on the system to determine the needed real dimension of the power supply.
The wattage of the channels is measured in another way (RMS, peak volume), meaning that very short (in time) spikes influence the outcome.
And those figures are inflated anyway.
Good luck with your system!
Cees
