Problems with Reply Box not appearing - Page 2

Happening to me too. Especially the long pause with the spinning wheel. I am using Firefox 3.6 on OSX.

Cristina:

Appears to have started around the same time as using the iframe.

Is there any word about being able to right click and do spell correction in the reply box, rather than having to write everything outside of HTF and then cut and paste?

Use Firefox. Disable Right-Click changes by Javascript. Check spelling is there.

Hi all,

It appears the issue in Firefox is being caused by the way we're now handling ads to increase performance (and decrease page load).  So while pages should be loading faster, unfortunately, the editor (called FCKeditor) doesn't load properly every time in Firefox.  The engineering team is actively working on a fix.

While this allows the spelling context menu now, it still doesn't allow you to copy and paste into the reply window using the right mouse button.

Huh...how about that. I don't use right-click for copy/paste, and hadn't noticed it.

I don't know why they want to rewrite the right-click menu with an inferior and non-standard custom implementation. All I can offer is a partial workaround.

All I can tell you is that they have classified it as a security issue and I called bull and they said 'tough' =)

Amazing how no other site on the web has the restrictions on this that Huddler does tho...  And it's not just copy and paste, it's spelling correction and other features too.  I suspect they want to disable 'save image as' but are trying to figure a way to do that without the average users joining me in going completely batty about this (and it wouldnt work anyway)....

The only thing that keeps coming to mind is the question, "tell me how this is an improvement over what came before?"

To be fair, Doug.  Ron has addressed that very question on a number of different occasions in various Feedback threads.

HERE is one of those posts which I could find.

Oh I'm not saying that they aren't, and I realize that the folks who are running the technical end of things are working very hard to fix the issues. My only question, is what is the advantage over the standard forum the everyone else runs. I don't see anything here that makes all the trouble worth while. Maybe there is a plus side from the administrators point of view, but as an end user I don't see it.

It's the difference between running your own website an all the terrors that come with it via a generic hosting company like, say godaddy, versus using a blog site like wordpress.com

The former gives you amazing freedom but you are responsible for all security and management.  The latter eases your administrative burden at the extreme cost of flexibility, individuality, and style.

This has been a HUGE problem for me today.

LOTS of missing Reply Boxes and spinning "Please Wait" status bars that won't resolve themselves.  It is VERY discouraging...

I have noticed that when I am able to reply with a quote, the quote appears after my reply rather than before!

I just tried again and there was space b efore and after my reply in post 13 of

There there was only space for my reply after not before ??????

I came back to this thread today to simply say I've never seen this problem as bad as it is for me today.  Virtually every thread (and PM) I check out does not display a Reply Box and several of the times I have hit the Quote button to reply, I have gotten the never-ending Please Wait status bar.

And, for those who didn't see it, here is a post from HTF co-owner Adam Gregorich (posted in the "Please Fix the Forum" thread) on the subject of the Reply Box not appearing:

I appreciate your patience.  Here is a bit of history.  When our site was under vB we used iframes for the ads to make sure that they loaded after the content on the page.  Those iframes went away after the switch to Huddler...until the last release.  We brought them back to help with performance and because some users were having problems where the ads loaded first and the rest of the page followed--I never experienced this issue myself, but I have a super fast Internet connection and fast PCs at home.

Here is our problem.  Our engineering team has isolated the trouble and it is not a bug on our platform, but with the way iframes are handled in Firefox.  Firefox has promised a fix in a future version and closed a lot of the bugs associate with it, but according to them the bug is deep in the core code which makes it more difficult for them to address.

Ultimately, this is Mozilla's bug to fix.  We can hack around the problem by adding special checks, force refreshes and artificial throttles into the load sequence of the page for Firefox users.  We have implemented some of those things already, and have more on the way, the problem is we really won't know how successful they are until we launch them.  So we are essentially trying to hack the site to work around a Mozilla bug (that is effecting lots of sites) until they actually fix the bug in their browser.  That is why it is taking so long to get this nailed down.

No issues here.  Are you running Firefox 3.6?
Actually he was running the "it's been 14 days since I logged in, so I was logged out without warning or notice" version.   Gotta love these "features".

Tonight has been awful for me with the Reply Box not showing up.  I had to refresh three times just now to get THIS  Reply Box!

Supposedly a fix is coming (possibly even today).

I hope so as I have been running into this issue a LOT today. This is only a sampling:

A few days ago, my Firefox upgraded to 3.6.3. I am not positive but today I have looked at least 20-30 posts and have always "had a reply box". Is it possible that the "bug" is fixed??

Also I see that "Help beta test the new Activity Feed.". Might I ask what are the priorities of correcting the many request of the members including the return of the drop down menu which many members have requested instead of implementing new things??????

That is an old thread, and the activity feed is actually a really popular feature.  We are actively working on a lot of things requested by users.  This release added a lot of bug fixes and several user requests.  I'm not sure the drop down menu will ever reappear exactly how it was, but in addition to some Firefox iframe/reply box work arounds, there were several changes made to the more forums drop down menus this afternoon that were all suggested by members.

Unfortunately, I just ran into the Reply Box issue while visiting the 24: Season 8 thread:

I don't know if the 24: Season 8 thread is causing a particular problem for me...but I just ran into the problem again:

HTF Audio Ad #4.jpg

I don't know why...but I cannot get the picture to display properly.

I got the gray reply box in the Spartacus thread.  A refresh fixed it this time.
Gee, Greg.  if you're just getting the No Reply Box problem just once in a great while...you're doing pretty good.

I see the issue every few threads I visit.
That gee sounds pretty sarcastic.

At one point a long time ago, I couldn't even post.  It wouldn't go away.  Deleting cookies fixed it that time.  I don't know if I'm heading towards another cookie purge or if that'll even help this time.
No sarcasm, Greg...directed towards you.  None at all.

It's just that the Reply Box problem is so rampant...I don't even figure I should keep posting about that one any more.

There are times when I have to hit the refresh button three times to get a Reply Box to show up.
