Did Olive Films license a number of titles from Paramount?

While looking for something at imdb, I noticed that a number of titles including some classic film noirs from a Paramount catalogue are listed under Olive Films studio with DVDs to be released in 2010.  Titles include:

Ansikte mot ansikte (Face to Face) (1976)
Once Is Not Enough (1975)
Fear Is the Key (1972)
Such Good Friends (1971)
Hannie Caulder (1971)
WUSA (1970)
Tropic of Cancer (1970)
Riot (1969)
Skidoo (1968)
Hurry Sundown (1967)
Promise Her Anything (1965)
Sands of the Kalahari (1965)
Harlow (1965)
Crack in the World (1965)
Where Love Has Gone (1964)
Escape from Zahrain (1962)
Summer and Smoke (1961)
On the Double (1961)
The Savage Innocents (1960)
The Mountain (1956)
Knock on Wood (1954)
Off Limits (1953)
My Favorite Spy (1951)
Appointment with Danger (1951)
Dark City (1950)
Union Station (1950)
Rope of Sand (1949)

I wonder if this deal is similar to the one Legend Films had a couple of years ago.

(titles already announced or released are in red)

SKIDOO!

Oh, and Hurry Sundown.

Hopefully both in 2.35:1. I'll buy them if they are.

I'm not sure why you are pointing to the bootleg site, but this is their web site and they don't list these titles yet.

Never heard of Olive Films - another fly-by-night?  Whatever happened to Legend Films and their deal with Paramount?
Yes, Sands Of The Kalahari & Crack In The World. I'll look forward to those, if it's all kosher.
Oh, if this is a (legitimate) reality then I'm in movie heaven! Still, I'm not holding my breath but I so hope I'm wrong. For a legitimate site, Amazon often lists dubious DVDs.
Face To Face had been frequently mentioned as a Criterion release.   Tropic of Cancer has been previously released.
If this is legitimate, then this pretty well kills the notion that the Otto Preminger Estate was holding back his titles.

Skidoo
Hurry Sundown
Such Good Friends

I will be happy to see several of these titles hit DVD in addition to the Preminger films.  Just THE MOUNTAIN, CRACK IN THE WORLD, KNOCK ON WOOD, HANNA CAULDER, and PROMISE HER ANYTHING are films I would love to have.

A criterionforum.org member emailed them and got this response:

"The films will be released on dvd in and around September 2010. Please feel free to check back on our website or sign up for our eNewsletter to get updates on the exact release dates."

I am going to wait and see the specs before I get too excited, but I would be very happy if they use the same approach as Legend films...release them OAR (anamorphic when needed) at a $14.95 (or lower) retail price. There are at least 10 films on the above list that I would buy if they follow this approach.

Hope this pans out.

If everything goes well I'll be interested in picking up Hannie Caulder, Sands of the Kalahari, Crack in the World, Appointment with Danger, Dark City and Union Station.

Olive Films has acquired the rights to these 27 Paramount titles. All of these films are newly mastered in HD and will be released in their original aspect ratios. The first batch of these should be released in the summer.

Is there any chance that Blake Edwards' Gunn (1967) will be licenced or has already been licenced?  It is a rarely seen film that has never been released on DVD or VHS.

I take it from your forum name (and a little googling) this is from the horse's mouth.

thanks for the update.

You are correct sir.

One last thing, I cannot discuss any future deals or films, so please refrain from asking me questions about other unreleased titles. I just wanted to clear the air about the current 27 titles.

Can you clarify if these will be pressed discs?

Newly Remastered (HD Transfer) DVDs and and some cases BLU-RAY.

I didn't even realize Paramount owned THE MOUNTAIN.  I loved watching this Spencer Tracy movie as a kid so I look forward to a widescreen release.

Hallelujah! My #1 and #4 most-wanted films on R1 DVD, SANDS OF THE KALAHARI and CRACK IN THE WORLD, will finally see release this year, and in HD transfers yet! Thank you, Olive Films!

I'll definitely be buying those two, as well as DARK CITY, UNION STATION, APPOINTMENT WITH DANGER, FEAR IS THE KEY, HANNIE CAULDER and ROPE OF SAND.

Although proper transfers of the films themselves will be good enough for me, I wonder if trailers (or any other bonus material) will also be included with any of these?

Tropic of Cancer has never been released on DVD. VHS only.

The Blu-ray news is rather impressive.

Can you set up a webpage so people can vote for the ones they want on Blu-ray? The Savage Innocents would make a stunning Blu-ray, especially if it was transfered from a Technirama element.

If you decide to license more Paramount titles, I'd like to suggest the following:

Run for Cover (1955)
Too Late Blues (1961)
The Slender Thread (1965)
Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977)
The Keep (1983)

There's also a bunch of cartoons (Betty Boop in particular) in Paramount's domain that could use a DVD champion.

wow...'summer and smoke' and 'the fugitive kind' from criterion makes this a good year for tennesse williams fans!

since some of these titles are from 1949-50, i hope they'll shoot for 'samson and delilah' in the future!

If they only sold it in Seattle, they'd make a small fortune. Seattle people love to look at their city- especially 45 year old images of it.

Best of Luck, OLIVE!

To OliveFrank.

my name is Joe Caporiccio.  In theearly 90s, I worked for Pioneer laserdisc.  We had a contract to release Paramount titles, and one of the things I did was to remix several Paramount films for true stereo using the stereo music tracks.  One of these was Summer and smoke.  Pioneer copaid with Paramount for the stereo remix, but per the contract, Paramount owned that final mix.  They should still have it somewhere.
