I have to log in every time I visit, why? - Page 2

Michael:  I haven't been needing to log back in.  After the "fix" was announced to be "in," I logged back in on each PC I use to reach the HTF and have been kept logged-in.

Sorry to hear you're still having issues.
I'm glad it's a limited phenomenon. I wanted to confirm that before submitting the bug report.

We pushed a fix for this a few minutes ago so you shouldn't be seeing these log out issues any more.  If you use the "Remember Me" function, you should stay logged in for 14 days (outside of any clearing of your cache or intentional log outs).  Apologies for the inconvenience.

Well...it's been exactly 14 days since Cristina told us the bug was zapped.  And, like clockwork, I just had to sign back in to the forum.

Is there some reason for the 14 day paradigm?

Consider yourself lucky. I still have to re-sign in several times days.

Every day when I wake up I think of myself as one lucky son of a gun...

I had to sign in today.  And, from my last post, it looks like it's been 14 days.  I wonder if 14 is random or if it's based on how long it takes for the Waltons to say goodnight.
I had to sign in today.  What an unnecessary pain in the ass.

And it is now March 15 and I just got logged out mid-visit.     Why?
Today was my login day as well.  We're all n'sync.
I also had to relog yesterday or the day before while I was still looking at things When I went back to my homepage I had to log on again.. I quess what Mike stated "I just got logged out mid-visit" is what happened to me????? Why is there a xx day period when one has to re-logon????  I would think that if there was no activity  for a few months maybe.

So I was here in the Feedback sub-forum trying to whine about the major problems I've been having today with the Reply Box not appearing in most threads I've been visiting and I realize that none of the posts I'm looking at have Reply buttons in them at all.

I hit refresh several times.  No reply buttons.  I figured "that's odd."  That's when it struck me.  I had been logged out by the HTF and had to log back in.  While I had done this on a home laptop yesterday...it was my turn to do so today on the PC at work.  I'll probably have to go through this again tomorrow on my home PC.

No warning.  One second I'm logged in, the next I'm not.  And there was nothing to notify me except that I was not able to complete the act of replying to a post in a thread I had clicked on moments before when I was logged-in.
There seems to be a number of uncorrected bugs. One is blaming Iframe and Firefox for the reply-box problem. I would say go back and not use Iframes  until Firefox says the problem is corrected.

Another and  easier problem is the log off, That should not be done if the user is already logged on - or is that also a firefox problem???  Eliminate the 14 day to log in.

The easiest "bug" is to move the code that puts out the breadcrumbs so that is immediately after the last post- say after the "Forum Nav line". That fix ought to be just a few minutes as earlier mentioned by someone.  Correct all bugs before implementing  fancy updates. My "search bug" took 3 or 4 months!!!! I am not convinced that the reply box problem is a firefox problem. Why is the problem getting worse? If the problem is only with firefox  that would not happen.

Well, it's only three days after the last time I was logged out...and it happened again.

Have we moved from a 14-day program to a 3-day program?
I also had to sign on again without having signed off

Also on my homepage, all my things are reset- it should only be forums and only my subscriptions instead set was  HT-Gear, forums, wikis,  profiles and unset was only my subscriptions. Please fix your errors and make sure your updates work!!!!! Stop working on undebuged fancy updates!!!!!

It appears that many people don't know about programming and TESTING.

I think we have to sign in again everytime there is an update. Was there one today (even if a small behind the scenes one)?
Nah, they said it was every 14 days, and it is--just like clockwork.  Maybe it happens with updates, too.
I just got logged off.  I hate to say it, but it just the little things like this that add up to a lackluster experience here.  I'm logged back in now and when my 14 days are up, I'm going to consider taking another break from HTF.  I've gotten used to the new "look", but it seems this transition has driven away many long-time posters and I just don't enjoy coming here as I used to.  I used to love the active discussion in AHL, for example.  But it's practically a ghost town there now.  At the time I'm typing this, there has been a whole whopping 9 posts in the entire AHL today (over 19 hours).  The "community feel" of HTF just isn't there any more for me.
The reduction in the number of posts may be due in part to the lack of a reply box (for some). I know there have been a few threads over the last few day that I wanted to reply to but couldn't because of the reply box problem.
I think i posted in the AHL in the last 19 hours. I feel, somehow special to be one of the few.

In the 12 hours since i last read the forum, only 1 1/2 pages of new stuff has appeared when i look at "all new posts"...not much.

Oh, and i had to log in this evening too. Just like clockwork!
I've had to log back on 3 times today.  It's ridiculous.  This software is really driving me away from HTF.  I no longer enjoy coming to the forum.  I check in on a couple of specific threads and then I'm outta here.  I no longer linger here like I used to.  With 9 posts in AHL over 19 hours, it seems I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Well, I was wrong.  I had to log in again just now.

Oooooh.  I think that's a shoo-in for "Post of the Month!"

Hmm.. I haven't really noticed a need to log in that much. Maybe it's not as sensitive for me. Once every 2 weeks is no big deal. But, if you have to do it every day or more than once a day, then that's a different story.
Here's a new one.

Since it has something to do with my logging in, I'll include it in this thread.

For a long time now, I sign on to the HTF using a link on my Firefox Bookmark Toolbar (an extension of the bookmarks function).  By clicking on the link it would faithfully take me to my Personalized Home Page...until today.

Now when I click on it it takes me to the main forums index page.

Here is the link which has been saved in my bookmark toolbar:

I'm going to guess I've been using that for a VERY long time and that it might go back to the vbulletin software.  But-like I noted above--it took me to the home page, until today.  It now directs me to:

rather than:

I'll change the link in the bookmark.  That's no problem.  I just thought someone might be interested.  Although, realistically...I suppose not.

Slow day today?
