2010 Winter Olympics - Vancouver, Canada - Page 8

I would have been frustrated if the US lost playing the sloppy game they played the first half of the second period. Fortunately, they played excellent hockey the entire second half of the game, right up to Crosby's skillful OT goal. Team USA left nothing on the table, and that's all you can ask for.

An absolute travesty. I wasn't planning on watching "The Marriage Ref" anyway, but if I had this BS move would have guarranteed that I'd stay away. A very sour final note on what has been better than average Olympic coverage from NBC.

I was up in St. Lawrence County, New York from my grandmother's 90th birthday this weekend so I was able to flip back and forth between NBC's coverage and CTV's coverage. CTV is certainly more thorough, but it showcased how many lulls there are when you present the events live in their entirety. NBC's highlights approach is much better suited to this viewer.

I hadn't seen much of the closing ceremonies...but I saw from when they extinguished the torch forward.  The abruptness of the end of the broadcast with the explanation that the ceremonies were going to continue but that the network was now going to The Marriage Ref was horrible.  Just horrible.  I turned it right off and will now miss the end of the Olympics broadcast...whenever that was going to be.

Adam:  Happy birthday to your grandmother!

While that wasn't the best-played hockey game I ever saw, there certainly was some drama at the end. The U.S. did better than anyone expected.  I'm fine with Canada winning, but would have rather seen anyone BUT Crosby score the goal.

"Canada is a big tent. If you're talented, we'll claim you."

I only watched M. J. Fox's piece, and it was pretty good.

I'd advise dong a google on 911 and Gander, that ought to get you some links.  Or try the NBC Olympic web site and see if they posted it there.  It's worth the effort.

That was a great hockey game, and for Canada, it could not have been scripted any better.

I think the ceremonies are the only thing in the Olympics that are better off on tape-delay, mainly because of the lulls, as Adam mentioned earlier. That said, I hated the fact that it was interrupted by The Marriage Ref. Seriously, how much power does Jerry Seinfeld have over NBC? To do it that way, was uncalled for.

I did catch the rest of the ceremony, which resumed an hour after being abruptly interrupted. The only interesting parts were a look ahead to London in 2012, closing thoughts by Bob Costas and Al Michaels, and the closing credits (showing the snow mountains and Olympic highlights), to close the book on the 2010 Winter Olympics. This could be NBC's last winter games.

2 1/2 years til London (or 4 years til Sochi, if you follow Winter only).

I was hoping to see Geddy Lee last night singing "Take Off" last night at the closing Ceremonites... :)

That was probably the worst closing ceremony I've ever seen.  Shatner and O'Hara were abysmal.  (But I did like Michael J. Fox somewhat.)  Thankfully, SCTV was a lot funnier back in the day.  What were they thinking -- that those routines were actually comedic?

Other than that interruption and excessive amount of commercials, I did not really have a problem with NBC's coverage. I could not watch most of the daytime coverage, because of my job.

Plus with Summer Games in 2012 (London is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time Zone), almost all the events will be happening when people are at work, where I'm sure they won't be allowed to watch, or have access to a TV. And I doubt people will take off work just to watch the Games. Basically, I can understand why there is a tape delay, and I doubt most people will be able to sit through an entire event.

When I looked, I wasn't able to find Brokaw's piece.  I found stories about Brokaw doing the piece, but that isn't exactly what I was looking for.

Hmm, forewarning to anybody here. I cannot verify that this is the Brokaw's piece but there is a youtube link in the link I paste below that might be the piece on NBC:

Saw the Brokaw piece.  Moved to tears at times, it was a moving example of the greatest of human spirit at a time of tragedy.  The very best of humanity - A town of 10,000, carved out of the cold by the hardiest of people - opens their hearts and homes to 7000 weary travelers stranded by vicious acts pepetuated by the very worst of humanity.  Nothing could display better the contrast of emotions I felt during those dark, yet spiritually enlightening days. As much as I kid hockey fans from Montreal, Canadians are the best people in the world.  Generous, kind, with a humility and outlook on life that many of us to the south could learn from.   Beautiful country, made that much more beautiful by the people who inhabit it.

That said, tonight I'm attending a Boston/Montreal game that will have an invasion of drunken Bleu, Blanc et Rouge clad idiots from the north, wearing their toilet seat habs1.jpgshirts and singing dumb soccer songs at a hockey game.  Blech!!

That's one beautiful logo you posted there, Jeff. Thanks.

Seriously, I'll echo Jeff's comments on Canadians. I've lived near the border my entire life, and always am treated warmly whenever going to Canada.  We are very lucky to have such fine neighbors.

They weren't great, but I didn't think they were that bad.  I laughed out loud with O'Hara was "swept" into position.

^^^

No, they were that bad.  You were hallucinating when you thought you were laughing.

Well, one of them did steal a woman's purse, and wearing that jersey can also be considered a crime.

Unfortunately, it is not the Brokaw piece.

From somebody on the following forum who tried to upload it to Youtube....

Conceivably, maybe follow that thread or register and see if one can get a hold of it directly..
