Newbie HDMI question

I am thinking of getting the Bose Lifestyle 18 Series III home theatre system. However, this system does not have an HDMI hookup. Does this mean it will not be able to hook up to my Blu-Ray player with HDMI?

It can't hook up with HDMI if it doesn't have HDMI. Bose equipment is WAY overpriced anyway. What is your budget and what are you looking to buy?

Yes. Stay away from Bose. They are WAY overpriced! You can do much better for the money. Tell us your budget, and we'll help you with suggestions for stuff, that will blow Bose out of the water.

More reasons to stay away from Bose cubes, and even worse for the Htib lifestyle system
  1. You will not be able to create the same sound in your home that you heard at the Bose demo.  The use specially produced audio tracks that have been altered to make up for the defects in their cheep speaker components.
  2. The Bass Module is not a powered Sub and is lacking in true low range.
  3. The lifestyle speakers have proprietary wiring connectors and cannot be used with other receivers.
  4. The speakers that are in the cubes are so small they cannot produce the mid range frequencies required for the front, center and surround program material.
  5. The lifestyle receiver is very much out of date as far as connections go.

As I remember those lifestyles are priced in the $2,000 range for that price you can put together a much better system of separate receiver and speakers.

Thanks for all the responses, I really appreciate it! I am planning on getting the Best Buy credit card because I can get no interest for 36 months on systems $1000 and up. I can afford to pay for the system right now, but I would prefer to spread it out over a couple years. Therefore I would like my budget to be somewhere in the range of $1100-1300 and use Best Buy if at all possible. The room that the system will be in for now will be pretty small, so I do not need something amazing. Thanks for the help!

In today's uncertain economy do you really want to go into debt for a luxury item like a HT even if the credit offer appears too good to be true.   Make sure you read all of the fine print of the agreement as some will require regular payments and if you miss one, the whole 0% interest deal is off from the time of purchase.    My brother in law fell for one of these extended no interest deals from Circuit City to the tune of $3,000 for two TV's.  Well a few months after Circuit City went under they got a notice from the company that purchased CC debts and they terminated the no interest deal and told them they owed them the principal plus interest from the date they took over the debt.  Lucky they had the money to pay it off as the interest was around 23%.  Can you afford to take a risk like this?

Also if you accept financing from Best Buy, your selection of equipment is limited to the brands that they sell at retail prices.   Not that you can't find good equipment at Best Buy, but their are so many brands they don't sell, and many that they do can be found for less on the Internet.

My advise is to save for the system of your dreams, you will feel much better not having debt sitting over your head for may years.

Looks like this post is getting old but do not give up on using Best Buy for your system.  There Magnolia section has some very nice stuff.  I agree with all the posters do not go with Bose.  Try finding specs they do not exists.

Try looking at Mirage or DefTech speakers, they are good at thier price points and BB just started selling Onkyo, I was a snob that would not look at Onkyo but now own their HT preamp which is great.  Denon is nice but Onkyo has the price point and feature set that Denon provides.  Best bang for the buck is Onkyo, it works and works well.

Just my two cents worth.
