Sound Of Music 2010 ???????

Heard a few rumors that SOM is coming out on blu by xmas. Any other news? I know you SOM fans are out there.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Well, this could happen, because the idiotic studio "anniversary" mentality seems to require that a catalog title almost always be released in a year after the original release date that is divisible by five. 1965 = 45 year anniversary. If it doesn't happen this year, we may have to wait until 2015 for the 50th. F**kin' stupid.

I always see people complaining about studios releasing movies to coincide with anniversaries but are there that many releases that have delayed to coincide with an anniversary? I have no doubt that some have but it's not like this an epidemic (and if anything I see fans talking way more about a xth anniversary release than studios actually doing it).

The real question is what we'd get if it is released this year. If I'm going to buy it again, I want the transfer to be a keeper - I don't really care about the extras.

The Digital Bits has confirmed that SOM will be released as a 45th aniversary edition on bluray in time for xmas.

Yeah, ten (10)  months away, why do they even bother telling us in Feb?????
Most Studios wait until 3-4 months out before they announce.

So does this mean we get 1 musical from Fox a year (Wow!)  such slow output

All the websites received a simple email from Fox announcing
the fact that THE SOUND OF MUSIC would be released on
Blu-ray this Christmas.

We are supposed to be sent a promotional trailer for the
title which we will post here shortly.

Excited and hopeful about the news, but I ain't buying until I read Mr. Harris' "a few words about..." it.
Everything that I'm hearing from the technical side is that every stop is being pulled out toward making this a perfect release.

Do I believe this?  Yes.

Well that is the SOUND OF MUSIC to my ears.  Thanks for making we wish it was November already.

Fantastic!

Am I now seriously excited? Yes!

..nice.

I'm even more excited now.  Short and to the point.  Nice teaser.  Would love to see it as an HD trailer.

Wonder who was playing the piano version of My Favorite Things?
I hope they don't filter the hell out of the soundtrack like they have for all of the DVD releases.
Is it likely to be region locked?
I hope the soundtrack is better than the last release. Some low sound effects were missing from the track (such as Maria slapping her skirt during the opening number.) And hopefully it is directional. I have every confidence that FOX will do as much as possible to make this a definitive release.

Yes, I really enjoy the movies with directional dialog.

I hope we get it in the UK at Christmas but I very much doubt it. We're still waiting for South Pacific.
The US version of South Pacific was not region locked which is why I hold out some hope for SOM.
Whoever that was playing the piano is terrible at it.

LOL.....someone didn't "know the notes" to play!

Ooooh!!!  I'm excited too!  Had kinda ignored this thread for a while there until just now.

Man,

What exactly did you want out of the trailer?

LOL.

Ron,

What I meant was the YouTube video was *literally* not working for me.  I was expecting to actually see a video footage at all.

But now, it's working.  No idea why it didn't work before other than I'm using a different computer on different network (working from home right now, instead of in the office yesterday).

Excellent news.

However, how does this news tie in with the annoucements some time ago about BD releases of Fox's "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" and "The Agony and the Ecstasy"?

Were these annoucements official or just rumour? In line with this current annoucement for "The Sound of Music", it was made some considerable time before the likely release date.

Hi all,
The Sound of Music Blu-ray release is one that has a lot of us very excited over here. The teaser trailer that Epstein posted is just that - a tease of great things to come later this year. TSOM on Blu-ray sounds and looks outstanding. Lots of fun activities planned surrounding it, look forward to sharing more down the road. And as always, we are open to hear your ideas.

Thanks for being here and responding Mr. Finn! I am very excited about this release, and hope that the picture is so good that I feel like I'm in Austria with the Von Trapps! I also hope that the sound is directional and the sound effect I talked about has been reinstated into the mix. This is a must buy for me! Would love to see a reunion with the cast. It's amazing that almost all of the major players are still with us and now would be a great time to hear their definitive thoughts about the film to be captured on blu for all time!

How about adding DIE TRAPP-FAMILIE (1956) as an extra on the release!  I believe that Fox still has the rights to it.

Looking forward to hearing more news of this release and the eventual release of the Blu-ray.
