Activity Feed a bit wonky?

The list of threads in my subscribed threads on my home page are all out of chronological order.

In other words, recently-bumped threads are NOT at the top...but may be near the bottom of the page or even on the second page.

Something has gone wrong somewhere.

Just went and checked my list of subscribed threads and this thread is NOT showing up on that list at all.

I am also not getting the little "circle arrow" thingie at the top of my list of subscribed threads telling me that one of them has been posted in.

This is still screwed up this morning.

Thanks for sounding the alarm, Mike.  I'm seeing similar issues.  I'm working on it with the engineering team.  I'll keep you posted when the issue is resolved.

It looks like things are resolved to me.

All of my subscribed threads seemed to be lined up properly.

I'm always surprised I'm the only one who seems to notice when that happens.    No one else must navigate the forum the way I do.

Thanks, Cristina.

Yep!  We're all caught up now.  Thanks for letting me know things are looking good on your end.

Cristina:

Maybe it's just occasional circumstances, but I still find many instances when the activity feed doesn't seem to be "keeping up."

For instance, I will make a post in a subscribed thread, return to my home page and find that that thread has NOT been bumped to the top but still has a couple of threads with older new posts above it.

It's not ALL the time...but ever since I started this thread and things got "unjammed" I have noticed a number of occasions when that lag has been pronounced--before things get "caught up."

And now...just as soon as I've posed the above message, it appears the activity feed is completely kaput and nothing is updating.  My list of subscribed threads is all out of whack.

Looks like we've run into a similar issue with the "jobs queue" backing up.  Basically, that's the part of the software that handles updating the activity feeds on the site as well as a few other things.  Usually if it happens, it resolves itself very quickly.  Occasionally, an engineer needs to step in to hurry along the process.

We should be back in activity feed business in just a few more minutes.  Thanks for your patience!

It seems as if the activity feed is again not refreshing on my home page.

Recently bumped threads are staying buried on secondary and tertiary pages.

Also, new subscriptons aren't being added to the home page, at least for me.

I've PM'd Cristina about this.

Any ideas as to why this keeps recurring?

I'm no more in the know than you, Mike. But I suspect it's the same thing we saw a week or so ago, because I'm also not getting email notifications of updates to subscribed threads.

Hmmm.  This really screws me up.

For instance, this thread is buried on the fifth page of my subscribed threads and when the threads don't get bumped to the top, I've got to go looking for them.  And, as you noted Michael, new thread subscriptions don't show up at all.

I wonder if anyone else, outside of us, is reading this thread, Michael?!?

Mike- Michael poked me with a sharp stick on this this AM.  I opened a ticket and followed it up with an email.  Will keep an eye on it.  Thanks to both of you.

This should be completely resolved in under an hour.  Unfortunately, the mailer sometimes chokes up causing a pause in email sending and feed updating.  These jobs are intertwined so when the mailer pauses, the feed updating pauses as well.  We should see the feed ordering going back to normal shortly.

Cristina, speaking just as a user of the site, I have to say that 24 hours constitutes more than a "pause".

His sharp stick is the stuff of HTF legend.

It DID, admittedly, seem like a long day/evening/morning of trying to keep track of things.

All untrue. However:

"You lookin' for trouble, Reuben?"

"You aim to help me find some?"
There are some people here to whom those lines would apply, but they don't have a title.
You're right, it was more of a choke and a stall than a pause.  Technically, it was not a crash as the job queue was still processing...it just wasn't being successful.  We are taking all the necessary steps to monitor the feed to take action as soon as possible in case this happens again.
We've run into some issues with the job queue after the 2.7 update.  We're about 10 minutes out of sync at this point and working on the issues to get them resolved ASAP.

No ten minute delay here.  More like six hours or so.

My activity feed isn't "active" at all.

I thought the same of mine until I looked closer.

Mine's "active" in the sense that it's updating. BUT the threads aren't reordering. So new activity is showing on my subscribed threads, but they aren't rising to the top. It's not the feed itself that's broken so much as the display.

That's pretty much the behavior I've seen every time the activity feed goes down, Michael.

The thread will show that it has been updated...but they just don't reorganize the way they should.  That's what screws me up.  I can't easily gauge which threads have been "bumped" unless I can find them by searching through all the pages of my subscribed threads.

Then, you usually chime in about how you're not getting your e-mails!

emails are working fine.  I'll dig into it.
