Pioneer Elite VXS-23TXH Setup Help

Thread Starter
I just switched over to the Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH and all is well except for the connection with my Comcast Cable box.  I have the Comcast box connected to the receiver via HDMI and the Receiver to the TV via HDMI but I get no video or audio.  Can anyone help?  Suggestions?  Anything is appreciated.

Thank you.

You probably need to assign the HDMI input you used on the receiver, to the CBL/SAT box. The owner's manual will tell you how. Also, go into the cable box's settings and make sure the audio is set to output Dolby Digital. Then make sure the video output is set to HDMI. In cable box's settings, you also probably need to tell it the aspect ratio is 16:9, and the resolution set to 1080i. Cable doesn't broadcast in 1080p. Let us know if this helps...........

Thanks for the suggestion, I did give that a try.  But in the long run, I had to do a reset of my cable box.  For some reason it got caught in limbo and just needed a reboot.

On another note, does anyone know if the VSX-23TXH should have on-screen display?  I'm not referring to the on-screen set-up menus, but rather a display of the volume level and/or input selection when changing inputs and volume?  My old Yamaha had this and I would have though it would be pretty standard by now.

Thanks again.

You mean changing the volume of different surround speakers and changing the name on inputs? Like I changed my HDMI 1 to DVR? Also where you do the MCAAC?
In that case on your remote you press the Receiver button down at the bottom and then the silver home button.
Yea I just got the same receiver and it took me a few mins to figure that out. Just had a VSX-55 which use a similar key combo.

Scott:

Please let me know how you made out and how you did it. I am troubled with the same issue(s) and the manual for my VSX-94TXH might as well be in Russian. I hate to think that I can't figure this out but it doesn't look good for this hero. Speakers all plugged in. No sound from Subwoofer. Tried to run the MAAC but told me to turn up volume on Sub which I did but still nothing. I know see that perhaps it meant Sub volume on the receiver. HDMI from Comcast to rcvr. HDMI from rcvr. to television. Nothing! Then I have an older DVD player with component cables and analog sound to rcvr. which I thought would be transformed by rcvr to the HDMI cable to TV and nothing doing with DVD. This is way too complicated but I know there's a solution out there somewhere and the result should be spectacular. Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.

WilliamRP,
What kind of cable do you have the sub hooked with?
It did the samething on my 23 when I ran Mcaac but the opposite, it told me to turn the sub down. I turned it down on the volume control on the sub a little at a time until it said it was good and continued.
Weird I have the same setup as you guys, a 23 and comcast dvr hooked up with HDMI. The dvr didn't work for me either until I turned it and everything else off and then back on.
Sounds like I had a similar problem with my Dvd also. I could not get my Hdmi Dvd (Sony) to connect to my receiver. I tried everything, finally connected it to the receiver by component and coaxial digital cable for sound. Still running Hdmi from receiver to tv.

William,

I own the same 94-txh receiver. When the MCACC program asks you to turn up the volume on the sub, it is in fact referring to the volume level control on the actual subwoofer.  I had to turn mine up a few times before MCACC could recognize sound coming from the sub. Make sure you have the sub plugged into the proper subwoofer output on the receiver, and you have told the receiver that you have a sub via the setup menu.

The receiver should also convert your component video to the HDMI output cable going to your television. I have a combination of components using HDMI and component video connections, and only a single HDMI cable running to my TV with no issues. My HD cable box and SD-DVD recorder are using component video and digital audio (one is coaxial, the other optical), while my BluRay player and upconverting Oppo SD-DVD universal player are HDMI. Make sure you have all the inputs assigned properly for each component via the receiver's setup menu.
