Human Target - Season One - Page 2

I just got a chance to sit down and watch the last couple of episodes, which have been sitting on my DVR.  (So many shows, so little time.)  The show is just a blast, not least because it refuses to take itself too seriously.  It has just enough tongue-in-cheek to keep up the fun quotient without undercutting the real jeopardy and the dramatic moments.  And it knows how to alter the balance within different episodes.  I loved the light Indiana Jones vibe of the South American episode, and the contrast with the D.C. episode/assassin episodes, which was mostly tense and darker.  (With a little humor to break the tension with "new girl" and Agent Barnes.  I hope Emmanuelle Vaugier and Autumn Reeser stay as recurring characters.  Emmanuelle keeps getting dropped from shows I like and she isn't on TV nearly as much as she should be.)

Regards,

Joe

Is one of them the girl that played the main character's ex-girlfriend in a recent episode?  She was featured in a promo and was wearing a white tank-top and jeans and the guns started a-blazing.  She almost got me to watch the show!

No, that was Leonor Varela.  She played Chance's ex in the South American episode I mentioned above.

Emmanuelle has played an FBI agent in two episodes now, including the most recent, "Baptiste".  She also had recurring roles as an NYPD detective on CSI: New York and as Charlie Sheen's girlfriend, later fiancee, on Two-and-a-Half Men.

Amber also made her second Human Target appearance in "Baptiste".  (She had previously been seen as a computer expert at a corrupt defense contractor Chance had to rescue someone from.  The rescue worked fine, but it pretty much put the company out of business and cost her character, Layla, her job.  Chance felt bad about it, so they hired her on a probationary basis to work with his team.)   She's been a regular on several shows I never watched (The O.C., Valentine), and has guest-starred in a few I have (CSI, Pushing Daisies.).

As you can see, any one of them would be a good reason to check out this show.

You always explain things very thoroughly and very well, Joe!

I am glad that Mark Valley has another show to star in. I loved Keen Eddie and disappointed when they canceled it. He was good in Boston Legal but that was the Shatner and Spader show.

I hope this show has a long run as it is a fun show with a great cast with Chi McBride and Jackie Haley, great writers and production.

I was surprised they got rid of Emmanuelle on CSI:NY.  I liked the storyline between her and Flack.

I suspect that it was a matter of cast size and costs.  They have a pretty big regular cast to begin with, plus recurring characters, and I think that they were getting to the point in the plot where they either had to make her a regular and move the relationship with Flack forward or drop her.  Dropping her meant explaining why such an important character was gone, and they didn't have too many options given the romance with Flack.  (They couldn't just have her move away from New York, for instance.)  So they made a virtue out of necessity and went with the big, dramatic, easy-to-promote "somebody's gonna die" story arc.  Ho-hum.

Joe

A lot of fun tonight.  My wife commented that this show reminds her in some ways of "The A-Team".  Yes, it's simple and sometimes corny.. but damn, it's good fun.  And the gunfight scene this week was a lot more entertaining then anything on 24.  Seeing him rush out of water firing.. that was good stuff.

Well this is one of my favorite shows now. Never thought I'd say that after watching the first two episodes but I'm really enjoying this show.

I love this show, as I've stated a few times in the thread.  The ratings are mediocre, but not in complete free fall.  Hopefully the recent cancellation of 24 is the spark of hope"Human Target" needs to stick around.

If you look at FOX's lineup, there are only two pure "action" shows: "Human Target" and "24."  "Fringe" and "Dollhouse" are both more of a blend of sci-fi and action than straight-up hours of adrenaline.  With "24" gone, that leaves "Human Target" as the only action show in the house.  Fringe is already renewed (yeah!) and Dollhouse has been cancelled (yeah!), so one could assume that either FOX has a few really killer action shows coming for next year, or "Human Target" will get the pitty-renew, just so the network has some measure of ass-kicking for the new season.

Regards,
It is a fun show.  Anyone who remembers the early promos for the show would have recognized seeing the jump off the cliff scene in this week's episode - Tanarak.  Presumably it was one of the earlier produced episodes.  It was nice to see Moon Bloodgood again (who I miss  from Journeyman and Day Break and for some reason didn't think much about when she was in a few episodes of Burn Notice last season).

I wonder if we'll see Layla again this season.

I love this show because it doesn't take itself too seriously has some good humor, great fights and hot women.

Well now I've definitely got to give it a second try.

It was killing me where I'd seen Christina Cole, and then I figured out she was the blonde witch in season one of "Hex", and I enjoyed her in that season, and quickly lost interest in the 2nd season when she wasn't on the show.

Looking forward to next week's episode and the hottie as well.

any word on a second season yet?

It doesn't look all that good according to http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/04/06/human-target-still-a-longshot-for-renewal/47475
Next week is the season finale and it appears to be an "origin" episode.

Crawdaddy

I agree.  While there is a "back story" its also nice that each episode can stand on its own.  You could come in at any point of the season and immediately be able to enjoy the show.  I don't find it very realistic, but its easily swallow-able by the fact that they don't take themselves seriously like Robert said.  Its just a good check out and enjoy popcorn series. Unfortunately me liking a series usually means a cancellation notice.....

Awesome season (series?) finale, cliffhanger and all.   It will be a damned shame if this show isn't renewed.  I would even take a shorter season of 12-16 episodes.

Pure entertainment.

It was a lot of fun.  I was disappointed that it was a cliffhanger.

FOX keeps on doing nasty things to Amy Acker ...

I really enjoyed it.  A lot of great guest appearances.  Its not a huge cliffhanger as cliffhangers go.  I enjoyed the show enough this season that I really want to come back for season two.

Still holding out hope that Katherine somehow survived the blast.

I sort of like the nickname "Jr." for Chance.  And I did like the guest-star for the previous Chance.

If Fox doesn't bring back "Human Target", it might rival the cliff-hanger they left us with for "Fastlane" a few years back.

Lee Majors.  That's almost all that needs to be said.  :)

This show was a lot of light hearted fun.  It never turned into "must see" material for me, but each week was entertaining, and with 24 gone, there really isn't another action oriented show on right now.  I'm hopeful for a season 2, just so we can see that the original Chance saved Katherine (Acker).  :)  Which is the whole reason why he was on the dock.

Or the huge cliffhanger that left us wondering what happened on Now and Again.

To be fair, Fox didn't do that to the "Now and Again" fans, that would be CBS.  Now Fox did also do that to "John Doe" fans, though.

For some reason, I didn't think Guerrero would have considerable hand-to-hand fight skills, so that surprised me.

Dude, Guerrero is all kinds of badass.

Speaking of "dude," did you notice that while he says "dude" to everyone else, he said "mate" to Baptiste, because he's British? :)

I thought the mention of previous Christopher Chances was cool.  If the show gets renewed, they could even have an episode from one of the previous Chance's point of view; say, the bodyguard from the 1900s (or whatever the year was).

Good catch!  I noticed he called him mate, but the significance didn't resonate (just thought, "Why didn't he say, 'dude'" :) )

I was wondering last night who was better - Guerrero or Baptiste?  From the dialogue Baptiste and the old man think it's Baptiste ("Want to prove you're just as good (as Junior), now's your chance to prove it!" / "I see you're keeping the same company").  I wonder how that would sit with Guerrero - I think he takes great pride in his 'work' and wouldn't want to be seen as lesser than anyone, except maybe Chance.

Really good episode, although from the allusions given in previous episodes, I expected the relationship between Chance/Junior and Katherine to be deeper, and at least somewhat longer.

Guess on the book:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
It's in her grave.
I really hope this gets a second season, both because I think it's a fun series and I think Mark Valley, like Nathan Fillion, deserves some 'stability' in the business.

I'm thinking if this show is not renewed, they almost have to film an ending if just to goose DVD sales.  Would you want to buy the "complete series" that had no ending?  I certainly won't and don't.

I really liked this series.  It was fun, light, and not too serious.  Knowing that it was based on a DC comic made it easier to accept some of the silliness.  I hope it returns.

That was a series that ended with a lot of questions.  I don't think this series is in the same boat cliffhanger wise.  As Matt said it was This show was a lot of light hearted fun.  I hope it comes back.

Well, they could easily make that happen, I almost expect it if there's another season.  The last time we saw her in the boat was a good 15 minutes or so earlier than the explosion, so it's definitely possible that she could've left it and Baptiste was bluffing.
