Already have a bunch of these (yes, region-free is the only way to go).  But what I'm really waiting on are the classic Paramount horrors of the '30s and '40s that are owned by Universal (save for "Murders in the Zoo," which was part of the Cult Horror set, and "Island of Lost Souls, rumored on its way from Criterion), and the '50s psychotonic entries "Thing That Wouldn't Die" and "Girl in the Kremlin."  You know, the occasional obscurity.  I'd be willing to bet these (if marketed smartly) would sell just as well if not better than much of what Universal's issued so far.

Which brings up the question , why are these movies not available in the US ? Makes no sense to me . Are there many foreign movies that are put out in the US and not in there own country ?

These non-removable subtitles on the French Sidonis DVDs are a real PAIN!!!!!!!!

Their version of "Column South" is horrid to boot.

The German Koch imprint is always a good bet "Chief Crazy Horse" is a super

widescreen transfer as is "Hell Bent For Leather" a top notch Audie Murphy.

The Koch version of "Border River" is excellent,as is their version of "Saskatchewan"

The French version (not Sidonis) of "Incident At Phantom Hill" is a lovely

widescreen transfer.

The version of "Taza Son Of Cochise" from Universal Spain is a lovely widescreen

transfer and reportedly better than the US version.

The Universal Spain version of "Calamity Jane & Sam Bass" is pretty good.

What has happened to Universal Spain there were a flood of releases a few months

ago but they seem to have given up on classic movies.

I agree; the German version of "Tomahawk" (not Koch) is stunning.

What I really crave from Universal,in any territory is some of the excellent

Westerns Jock Mahoney made for them. I am most keen on the following:

A DAY OF FURY

JOE DAKOTA

SLIM CARTER

LAST OF THE FAST GUNS

SHOWDOWN AT ABILENE

MONEY,WOMEN AND GUNS

I cannot believe none of these films have been released on DVD in any territory!

I too would like to see Universal unearth their missing horrors "Curse Of The Undead"

and "The Thing That Wouldnt Die"

Also the tough crime thriller "Naked Alibi" that had maverick cop Sterling Hayden

stalking psycho Gene Barry (sound familiar?)

You can get a very nice DVD of Phantom Lady in France, too. No forced subtitles. There's even a review on DVDBeaver: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews30/robert_siodmak_collection.htm
Available individually, as well.

Is the exclusive only available in the brick-and-mortar stores - and not available on-line?

Anyone know when/what the universal vault series plans to release next?

They don't even know.

In a MOD mood I did an Amazon search for Univesal Vault Series titles, the only way to find out about them. I've no idea when or if these will be released or in some cases reissued, like ULZANA'S RAID (Universal is very much the mystery MOD), but these may be in the offing this year:

THE BRINK'S JOB
THE CAT AND THE CANARY (Bob Hope)
COBRA WOMAN
DEATH OF A GUNFIGHTER
GAMES
GUN FOR A COWARD
THE ISLAND (Michael Caine)
LEAVING NORMAL
QUANTEZ
ROUGH NIGHT IN JERICHO
THE SEDUCTION OF JOE TYNAN
THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION
TARANTULA
TOMAHAWK
YOU GOTTA STAY HAPPY

Quantez! I've been hunting for a DVD of this movie for a very long time.
It may be a long time yet, but it's on someone's radar.

Thanks for the heads-up. I've been wanting The Seven Percent Solution.

And I see Amazon now has artwork for all the items you listed (there was none yesterday) so I'm guessing these will be available soon.

i still can not believe that uni has never released tobruk on dvd.
SOLUTION was on R1 DVD (full-frame) as I recall but went OOP. I'm hoping that like ULZANA'S RAID this will be reissued widescreen.
Robin 9, Berkshires, etc: Just checked Amazon and the new Universal MODs are available for purchase. No specs but I'm hoping for the best. Go get 'em, MOD lovers.

If anyone is interested in the McHale's Navy, both movies are avilable on a blu-ray double feature through Madman in Australia. I got it and they both look good on blu-ray.

Thanks, some good titles there. However, I'll wait for these to be marked down to around $15 like the last Universal wave.

So, what's the general consensus on these regarding LBX or full screen? Does Universal release them in their correct aspect ratio, or not?

So far, I've not heard of an instance in which the Universal MODs letterboxed or used Pan & Scan. None of mine do. Some of their earlier DVDs perhaps, but that's another story...

I'm not sure I understand your answer . . . are they, or are they NOT widescreen?
