While obviously not the definitive version of the LOTR books, this was a very cool movie. Thanks for the heads-up, Ron.

What I'm really waiting for is the animated version of The Hobbit.  It's DVD release was missing a bunch of sound effects for some reason, so I've been waiting for Warner to re-visit the title in the hopes that they'd finally correct this huge error.  With the live-action Hobbit movie on the way, I'm finally hopeful that they'll do so.

Hopefully BD will be better able to resolve some of the murk that existed on the DVD. The snapper transfer was good, but the limitations of the DVD format were quite clear.

Oh, Warner PR.

his pioneering rotoscoping process

The Fleischer's would beg to differ.

Rotoscoping was also used in Snow White.

Deleted. Whenever, I see anything about this film I immediately think about the scene in Bree: where Bakshi uses live action footage with some kind of colour wash as a replacement for animation. I always mix this up with the rotoscoping that Bakshi liberally used in making this film. As Brian Kidd pointed out Bakshi's "pioneering" rotoscoping was really pioneered by the Fleischers, who invented and patented the process.
