The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

hmmmm...not even a rental for me this week.
Will have to pick up Ralph Bakshi's Mighty Mouse--someday, when the price drops further.
Nothing new for me this week. I may pick up Sons Of Anarchy or Dollhouse over at Best Buy though.

Thanks for the prices, guys!
Super Friends when it goes on sale.  Same with BSG.  But I may be forced to pick up Fight Club on the cheap...only problem is I've only watched the DVD once since it came out....

Well, as a new Blu Ray owner I just had to pre-order The Last Starfighter.   With the economy the way it is I'm renting far more than buying, and I'm only buying BD versions of movies I know will really benefit from the higher resolution on my set-up and that I'll watch a lot.  (Hence my current total of three titles, 2001, Star Trek: First Contact and the BBC's Planet Earth.)   But for $16.00 how could I not buy TLS?

Now if someone would only revisit Streets of Fire and The Rocketeer I can die happy.

Regards,

Joe

I got a blu-ray player for Christmas so I will have to start checking out this weekly thread again.  As always thanks to Mike, Patrick, et. al. for putting this together every week.

Careful, Joe.  That's how it all starts.  I also was following the "I'll only buy new releases on blu" rule.  Then, you make the first "exception"--for good reasons, of course.    Then another...and another.

Welcome home, Marty!  Glad to have you back!

That reminds me.  This week marks my sixth year of putting this puppy together.  Just think, it was six years ago this week that the four Alien films were releases in their two disc SEs for $19.99 apiece at most retailers!
I was hoping there would be some Chuck deals such as $10 off if you bought both seasons.
If anyone's interested (looking at you, Mike, if memory serves), BestBuy.com has Julie and Julia (BD) for $19.99.  The store will price match, obviously.  They also have their standard array of $9.99 BD's on sale in store: Phantom of the Opera, John Q, Traitor, etc.

Jason:  Thanks!  I was happy to see J&J for $19.99 a couple of days ago...except I was just as disappointed to see that it was the DVD not the BD.  I have yet to see a copy show up in a used bin in any of my local stores or at my local rental shops.

Maybe I'll take you up on your suggestion...or I suppose I could order it on-line and do an in-store pickup, eh?  I've never done that before...although I've seen them discussed here many times.

It has amazed me how this title hasn't yet budged off its high price point.  I know as soon as I pick it up, it will probably be a regular in the $9.99 or $14.99 sales...

That's why I picked it up today.  Yeah, it is $20, still on the high-ish side, but it Universal BD's aren't included in a ton of sales (just like Fox) are good prices on a regular basis.  Plus, I really enjoyed J&J over the summer and $20 is more than fair, in my mind.

Both the in store price match and online order should be no hassle for you.  I did mine right at the register and didn't have a single problem.

Thanks for the six years of doing this Mike.  I know its a pain and there are weeks you would probably rather skip, but I can't tell you how often I use it!

The Steam sale tapped me out so no HT stuff for me this week, but wanted to thank Mike BIG TIME for doing this all these years!
I wouldnt know what to do without The Round-Up. Thanks as always Mike, and Patrick.

Galactica season 1 on Blu for me, and thats it. Kind of a slow period for movies, it seems. I have 11 items in my Amazon wish list, going all the way to the end of March. Not much, if you ask me.

Damn, six years, thanks for doing this great service for all of us!

I guess you are officially no longer "Dave's replacement"

It's 28.99 right now and since it was put up for order it has been jumping from that price to 31.99 and back just about twice a week.

You like me, you really, really like me!    I guess I have finally arrived!

Hmmmmmm.  I wonder if amazon will end up price matching bb.com on the Julie & Julia BD?!?

Amazon's $30 price for Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2 (BluRay) for me.

This is what it should have cost from day one. Bought.
Thanks for six great years, Mike and Patrick. I haven't been around for all of them, and I'm largely a lurker, but I've certainly saved money and invested time into fantastic films thanks to your efforts.  One specific example I can think of is I am a Fugitive in a Chain Gang.  If not for coming across it in one of your posts a couple of years ago I'd have never known about the film, let alone bought it.  My viewing of the (excellent!) film caused me to take a chance on other Paul Muni films such as Scarface and The Life of Emile Zola.

Between the Weekly Roundup and TerryRL's "... at the Box Office" threads, this forum should be required viewing for all movie fans.

With all that being said, this is a terrible week for both new releases and sales.  Absolutely no blurays on sale at Target this week?  I certainly hope this isn't an example of post-holiday Blu-ray inflation.  It's probably for the best anyway; Moon comes out next week!

That's really cool, Greg.  Thanks for writing!

I am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang has always held a special place for me as it was one of the first films I may have ever watched.  I watched it as a young teen on my local PBS affiliate (where I also got to watch a bunch of Bergman films at that time).  I HAD to watch it--with that title and all.  And I've never forgotten Paul Muni's performance.

I was in a Target tonight.  As you noted, there's not much going on there this week.  There are still some discounted Blu-rays...but it's mostly the same stuff that they've had on sale for weeks already.

Say, speaking of used bins, what does Blockbuster generally charge for used BDs these days?
2/25 at corp stores and unknown at franchise.

Interesting.  When they get down to 2/$20 I'll be in trouble.  ;)

Getting Mighty Mouse.

Really?  Not bad.   Is the selection pretty good?  I'll have to swing by there on the way home.
depends obviously on the location.

And, on individual taste.  Expect to see the leftovers of the fairly recent releases which the stores might have ordered in large quantities.  And the selection is never even close to the size of the used DVD selection.

At one of my local Hollywood Video stores right now, there is one small wall section devoted to PV'd BD titles.  Among the titles I remember seeing there a few days ago:  The International, Valkyrie, Tropic Thunder, Benjamin Button, Marley & Me, The Day the Earth Stood Still, a couple of the Saw movies, Wanted.  There were more...but many of them were horror or comedy titles that didn't interest me.  And there were only 1 to 4 copies of each title.
Nothing for me this week, though, I do want to eventually get all of BSG in Blu.

Just wanted to say kudos on six years!  You and Patrick provide an invaluable service!  Especially since I don't get the Best Buy circular with my Sunday paper anymore!
