1. The challenge is to watch EVERY TITLE in your collection.
2. Commentaries are optional (but encouraged).
3. The CHALLENGE begins at 12:01am on January the 1st, 2010 and end at 11:59 on December the 31st, 2010.
4. Make up your own rules.

Those are the only guidelines. Use this thread to keep track of the titles you watch. Reserve your place in the thread and then just update that post with each film. Some have much larger collections and can't get through it, so they my decide to skip the extras and just do the films. That's entirely up to you. This is just for fun. No prizes involved if you finish. Just the satisfaction of knowing you watched 'em all. Enjoy.

So Adam was kind enough to make this a little interesting by offering a ceremonial prize at the end of the year.
It'll likely be names in hat for those who made an honost attempt to watch as many titles as they could by the end of the year, so we'll rely on the honor system and if a member claims they watched their films, we'll put their names in a hat and draw a name at random and give away a couple of titles from the studio that'll be nice enough to pony up.

well I bought and watched Terminator Salvation on Blu-Ray yesterday and must admit its grown on me

when I saw it in the cinema (green) I was underwhelmed

when I saw it again on Download (twice), it was getting better...but still not great

getting it on Blu (BLUE) has changed my mind, I actually liked the film and feel it has much to offer, the PQ and SQ are fantastic and there are many good elements to the film that I enjoyed, more than the elements that drag the film down =

= Christian Bale and some continuity errors

for example when Connor climbs into the helicopter at the beginning he does not fasten a seat belt, but unclips a seat belt after the nuke forces the helicopter down

and when the Terminator grabs his leg following his helicopter crash, it pulls his boot off, but when he slides free and gets onto the helicopter mounted M60 gun he is wearing both boots....)

doesn't ruin the film, but weakens the experience

well I'm looking forward to Terminator 5 & 6 if they get made

I will work through the other 70 discs in my HD collection and let you know asap

Maybe you should just call it the HD collection challenge. Some of us have many more HDDVDs than Blu-rays and probably will even through the end of 2010.

I don't want to step on the OP toes but how about a "Repeat viewing" rating? There are movies that are great as a movie the first time but lose something (or a lot of something) watching it again and might be better as a rental versus owning. Some of the heist type movies fall into that category where the excitement is in the learning how the heist was accomplished, not so much the journey. Other movies were not that great as a movie but the viewer likes watching them every few months because they are plain fun, entertaining, or just strike a personal chord (To me: 5th Element, Riddick, Constantine). Or movies that were not that great the first time (to the viewer) but grew on them after repeated viewings (To me: again 5th Element, MIB). I am trying to only buy movies that I feel warrant repeat viewings but sometimes a bargain is so good on a movie I haven't seen that I take a chance and so I wind up with movies I will likely never watch again except for a challenge like this one.

Rating system: 1 to 5 stars based upon my own enjoyment of the movie. First rating is for the first viewing. Second rating is how much I enjoyed watching it again, aka The Repeat Factor. 3 stars for first time is decent movie, worth the 2 hours but not much better than that. 3 stars for a repeat viewing is around once every few years but if it is on I will watch it. 2 start for repeat viewing is maybe again in my lifetime.

Doh! Can we exclude all the titles that we own primarily for other family members (and would likely not own, if single or only have a spouse/significant-other)? I probably own too many BDs already (even after excluding those others) to have a realistic chance to complete the challenge, especially after picking up the Lost 5-season set, but if I have to rewatch Twilight, Mamma Mia, et al. on top of various DVDs and occasional rentals I'd also want to (re)watch, then forget about it.

Also, can we exclude the ones we do not plan on keeping beyond this year (while adding the ones we will buy during the year)? Hmmm... Would we also have to include all titles bought in the final weeks of the year, especially if there's a ton of great holiday sales (like this past holiday shopping season)?

What about titles we rent first before deciding to buy during this year?

Gosh, and I already watched S1 of Lost to end 2009 too -- guess that means I'll need to rewatch that at some point this year?

The Water Horse Legend of the Deep (2007)

Charming movie suited for the whole family about a young boy that discovers an egg that hatches into Nessie. This was just a lovely story all around with great acting from the principles.

I decided to watch the extras on this disc but I won't be doing it for every bluray I watch. The featurette was mainly a fluff piece but longer than most. It was divided up into six parts which included: a discussion of the legend of Nessie, the characters in the story, creating the water horse etc. Mostly standard stuff with some interesting tidbits. Also included was a collection of mostly unmemorable deleted scenes, trailers for upcoming movies and a virtual game that I didn't bother with.

This movie was a freebie when I bought my bluray player and has been watched several times by my little granddaughters when they come over. Glad to have it in my collection.

Star Trek: TOS Season 2 Disc 4 (1967)

There was only one Star Trek episode on this disc, but what an episode it is. The Trouble with Tribbles holds a place in the top five classic Star Trek episodes. A real treat to watch from beginning to end with all the actors in top form.
I watched both the original and enhanced versions and it's interesting comparing the two. I can't say whether I prefer one over the other. Also included on this disc was the animated tv episode More Tribbles, More Trouble and the Deep Space 9 episode Trials and Tribblations an excellent combination with the original. I must say though that the Deep Space 9 crew seemed dull compared with the more flamboyant personalities on board Enterprise NCC-1701. Also on the disc were two short featurettes on how they were able to combine the two episodes and why.
For a tv series from the mid-sixties the video on this set is outstanding, better than I could have hoped for. It's really been a pleasure revisiting one of my all-time favourite sci-fi series.

January Recap

Total discs watched including movies and tv series = 30

Of that total, number of blurays watched = 14 with 9 of them movies

Favourite blu-ray watched this month was the Exorcism of Emily Rose with Moon being a close second.

Didn't watch as many from my collection as I could have but I'm trying to spread them out since I have a little less than 100 bluray movies.

In these monthly re-caps I'll include all discs watched but only list my blu-rays when picking favs for the month.

Well, I was down to about 23 Bluray titles to watch. Thanks to some nice sales and anticipated new releases my total is back up over 60 to watch. This is never ending but it has given me an opportunity to watch both blu and dvd's that I haven't watched in a long time. It looks like I'm the only one left at least for now.

One good thing about being late to the party (just bought my BD player last November) is that I don't have too many discs.

Of the 41 titles I currently own, I've watched a little over 29 1/2 of them. (I've only watched a few episodes of The Prisoner on Blu Ray, so far, and only one half of the Where Eagles Dare/Kelly's Heros double-feature set.) Most of the "owned but not watched" films are movies I've seen (and owned) many times. Despite my best intentions to concentrate on new acquisitions on Blu Ray going forward, and limiting repeat buys initially, my collection consists of about 55% double-dips and only 45% first-time buys.

(And even most of them are obviously movies I've at least seen before - although a few, like Stagecoach, Band of Brothers, John Adams and the two most recent Batman films are titles I took a chance on based on reputation and word-of-mouth. That and the fact that I got really good deals on them. Which also explains some of the double-dips. I got Heathers for $5.99 and Blazing Saddles for $7.99. My per disc average - to adjust for things like TV boxes or 3-movie sets - is $14 so far. If I excluded The Prisoner, the Pride & Prejudice mini-series and Band of Brothers that number would be even lower.)

I'm at the office now, and don't have access to my full catalog. I'll have to edit this when I get home to add and rate the films I have watched.

Nice. I have about 141 movies so far but when adding dvd's I have well over 1000. I'd say I've sold about 1/2 of my dvd collection over the years and I just got rid of my last few Lasers. I've been selling alot of my collection over the past few months. Alot of those titles will never get replaced on blue. I'd say about 1/2 of my blu collection is double dips. I know I want to replace most of my Sci-fis on blu-ray and some of my favourites, and those of course that were non-anamorphic or is a significant upgrade.

Forbidden Planet is one I definitely want to pick up when released. Of course I've already got it on dvd. I've been on the fence regarding the Fugitive. I thought the video quality of my dvd poor. What's the bluray like? I'd forgotten about the Last Starfighter. I'll have to replace my dvd.

You've got some great blurays there. From your list I still need to pick up Butch Cassidy, Casablanca and Planet Earth, though I've been wondering whether it was worth upgrading my dvd. I've read the video quality pales in comparison to Life.

Actually, I don't have The Fugitive on Blu Ray, so I can't comment on the quality. That one's on my "to buy" list and it ended up in my post because of a typo in the spreadsheet I used to track my BD purchases. I think Planet Earth would be worth the upgrade. I didn't own it on DVD, but had borrowed and watched a friend's copy. It was beautiful upconverted on my TV, but not as good as the broadcast and not nearly as good as the Blu Ray.

Well I've watched my bluray collection except for Alien 4 and the last couple of discs of Star Trek: Season 1. I've got a couple on order and I'll add those as I watch them. I can't see myself buying alot until after Christmas.
