LCD Durability?

Okay, a major problem I had with purchasing a plasma back in '02/'03 when I got my Toshiba 42H83 is that, from what I heard with Plasmas, as soon as you sit them down horizontally they're totally dead and you've got a paperweight on your hands.  So, they need to be kept vertical at all times due to the fragile nature of the phosphorous gases that help with displaying the images.

Is this the same with LCD?  Or, can you move them, put them down horizontally (the only way I'll be able to move my LCD because of the lack of room in my car when I move into my apartment in February), and they'll still be okay?

I have no idea who told you that you can't lay a plasma flat, but they were dead wrong.

What you should never do with either a plasma or an LCD is transport it flat--hit a bump and the screen flexes and you've got an expensive doorstop.  If you need to move one borrow or rent some kind of vehicle in which you can transport the set vertically.

Greetings

I've transported 4 plasma sets over 800 miles in my back seat of my Altima.  Not at one time ... mind you.  The sets tended to be at 45 degrees and were padded with pillows and bubble wrap.  All transported fine.  No issues.

As steve says ... the flexing of the glass when flat may shatter it.  But then if properly protected ... it might not.
