Survivor - Heroes vs. Villians (season 20) official discussion thread - Page 6

I suspect one of the reasons Russell was so upset at not winning last season is because he's not even in the running this time out.  So glad Cirie is gone.

Glad she's gone.....I never want her to taint another season of Survivor...ever!

Now....as for Russell, he seems to be slipping up this season.  I can't believe he didn't figure that the piece of paper in the knife sheath was a clue to the HII.....the Russell of last season would have been already looking for the damn thing and probably had it by now without putting a target so blatantly on his back.  I hope that he can survive this as I really want to see a true battle of wills  between him and Boston Rob LATER down the line when they are more evenly matched.....right now, Rob has the control.  It's the wrong time to butt heads with this guy.

If I were the villains, I would seriously get rid of Sandra.....never liked her either.....a complete grump of a woman.....also, get rid of the stick figure girl.....I swear....looking at Courtney in that challenge, she looked like she had the physique of one of the aliens in Close Encounters....eat something, for crying out loud!!!

There.....I've had my say.

One more thing.....the Dragonslayer needs to man up.  I would never have expected a guy so full of himself to get "cry-babyitis".

I get why some people don't like Cirie, but "The only thing she's good at is staying under the radar and picking off the stronger players."  Isn't that the game?  Knocking off the stronger players so they can't beat you?  You can win the game without winning a single challenge.  You can't win if you get voted off or go up against a stronger player.

The reason Sandra and Courtney hang around is because the other players think they'll have a chance later to knock them off or get more votes against them at the end.  The number of chances to knock off a perceived threat at the challenges or a heavily allied player is far fewer.  Gotta take them out when you can.  This is especially true in an all star season where you not only have the most likable and clever players, but also the most experienced.  Nobody's out there for the first time and they are all threats.

My bet isthat Russell did look for the idol without the clue.  He just didn't find it so there was no use wasting camera time showing him look for it.  They seem pretty packed for content as is.  I think that's also the reason for combining a number of the immunity/reward challenges (if they were even combined on the island and not in the editing room).  Russell is certainly a game changer.  We've seen the last of the idols being hidden in plain sight or inside the center of the camps.

Well, tonight's reward challenge just took a turn for the nasty - from Colby getting snippy with Jeff, and Jeff giving it right back before the challenge even started, to James getting slammed, and Rupert tossing Jerri around like a rag doll.  Everyone's attitudes just took a turn for the worse.

Too bad the Heroes simply suck at the puzzle portion of the immunity challenges.  It's looking like a back-end season chillin' with the villains.
Don't think Tom was the right choice to go home.  Why
have someone like James who is injured and clearly

cannot compete in physical competitions?

Russell is my all-time favorite Survivor player.  Like
him or not, you got to hand it to him for taking this
show to the next level.  He's certainly not someone to
be trusted, but he sure is enjoyable to watch.  That
being said, I think his days are severely numbered.
He will be targeted at the next Villains tribal council
and I wonder after he plays the immunity idol if his
teammates will forget the way he just went off on
and searched for that idol on his own.

I suppose what I am saying is that once Russell is
gone, I don't find anyone else in the game that I find
to be interesting.

I, too, find it hard to believe that keeping an injured James was the smartest choice for the Heroes.  Time will tell, obviously...but it really seemed as if it was just a decision based on numbers and early alliances (not necessarily on what was best for the tribe to turn things around).

It's too bad the cameras weren't better positioned on the beach for James' return to the tribe after receiving his medical treatment.  A slow-motion run and embrace from Amanda (with a soundtrack of swelling strings playing underneath) might've been a nice touch.    The tight editing of her producer's interviews (weepy Amanda/James' return/gushing Amanda) was hysterical!
What an ugly episode, ugly attitudes (what the hell was Colby's problem?), ugly challenge all topped off by James attitude at tribal, yeah it makes perfect sense to me to keep the guy who can't even walk let alone run.

Russell may be fun to watch but that man needs a serious lesson in humility and I really hope he gets it soon. Once again he's proving that he is far from the greatest player in Survivor history, what good is being smart and physically strong if everyone hates you at the end of the game?

I actually couldn't wait for that episode to end.

I kinda liked the group "FU" to Probst about the trays with the dinky pieces of chocolate on it.

Chocolate?  For a reward challenge?  Who cares?

It's kinda Pavlovian that the cast is supposed to get all ballistic over a scrap of food the size of a fingernail.  I suppose it's designed to be "good television"--adding to the significance of the upcoming challenge.

I'd have to figure it should have probably screwed up the Villains' digestive tracts more than giving them anything much of nutritional value.
While I agree that chocolate as a reward isn't all that exciting it was just plain rude to give Jeff the brush off like that, I mean damn the man was only trying to give them a small sample of the reward.

They were way out of line with that I thought.

That said, give me food for a reward, not candy.
Chocolate is food.
So are candy canes, but I think the Survivors normally want protein rich foods to keep up their strength.
Chocolate is food in the sense that it's edible but that's pretty much it.

Don't get me wrong I love chocolate but If I'm in that game I want real food, not an entire banquet centered around chocolate.

I mean what is this, Willy Wonka's Factory lol?
I don't think Colby was being an ass, I think the team was just ready to go and didn't want to to gush over silly chocolate.  And by the way chocolate can be defined as "food", but it's just processed crap that offers very little value to a bunch of hungry people who are forced to be athletic on a regular basis.  I think Jeff was a little put off that the Heroes didn't care and he was trying to force "good tv" with the conflict.

Retarded to keep James.  In slow mo you can see his knee buckle due to the angle at which he was landing after jumping for a ball.  It wasn't contact from others that caused it, just bad luck. It was clearly hyperextended.  Football players do it all the time, guess what, they don't return for the season, let alone the next day....

Heroes are done, and looking like morons.
My prediction:
Rob will target Russel.  Russel plays the idol, and Rob goes home.  Having lost ALL of their brains (except for Sandras') the Villians roll over and are dominated for the rest of the season.
I thought Probst was being an idiot at the challenge.  Colby and the Heroes basically came in with their game faces on.  It was hard to take them seriously as it was plainly a self-motivational tool to try and get them pysched up and off the losing track. I thought it theatric, but you see it all the time in sports, and it can help.  For Jeff to take it seriously and not just say "Donaldson has his game face on and turns down the candy" was douchey.

Too bad to see James hurt but the vote basically confirms what repeated seasons have taught the players -- despite appearances, the game does not shift from a team game to an individual game at the merge.  It's an individual game from Day 1.  Even first time players know this and when you have a game with 20 experienced players and good ones at that, it's even moreso.  Whether it was better for the players to keep Tom around for challenges or James around for his vote (and a weaker James at that, who nobody will question when he is nominated for ouster) is arguable.  Even if I'd prefer them keep a stronger physical team around, I understand why they voted the way they did.

Right but there's a right way and a wrong way to do things, a little thing called manners and being polite, a simple "no thanks, Jeff, we're just ready to get to the challenge." would have sufficed.

Colby's attitude is indefensible IMO, he just wanted to get to the challenge okay great but he didn't have to be a total prick about it.

Yes, I know chocolate is a food but I think most know what I meant, after being stranded on an island with very little to nothing to eat I want meat, potatoes and veggies not empty candy, especially chocolate, under those conditions that stuff would have made me sicker than a dog.

Hammer I must not have been watching the same thing as you. I thought Colby told Jeff that they did not want it and that Jeff asked about 3 times the exact same question. After the first time they responded he should have just let it go but instead he kept saying "whats the deal?". Get over it Jeff.

I think it was funny that Cobly was all pumped but then set out the challenge.

Rupert is stupid. He got painted as the nicest guy in the world during his first time on the show but has showed he is a crabby old man ever since. I have never figured out why he did not take a bad rap for stealing everyones shoes yet if anyone else did this they would be marked a villian. Also way to run the girls head into a pole.

I hope we get a Tyson, Russel, Coach, and Parvati team.

Russel dumb or not makes for funny TV to me. I cracked up with him knighting Coach. What goof balls.

Well, I'm sad to see Tom, my all time favorite survivor get voted out.  I've been trying to figure out if JT is smart or foolish to switch back to the Amanda-James-Rupert alliance.  If he and Candace had linked up with Tom and Colby, they would have formed a tough alliance to beat, but do you want to take tough competitors like Colby and Tom into a merge where you compete against them?  Once Colby is gone, JT becomes the best strategist and challenge player the heroes have.  Maybe that's his plan.

Russell is doing a good job leveraging the idol into power.  Parvati makes a natural partner.  With the idol he could pull the same move Tom and Colby did with Cerie.  Force the majority to split their votes between Russell and Parv then with Coach, potentially take out a dominant player with a minority of votes.  The way to counter that move is for all of Rob's people to vote for Parvati while Boston Rob makes clear to Russell how much he wants Russell gone.  Russell will never hand the idol to anyone;  Parvati is voted out and Russell loses his major partner.  I also believe Russell would play the idol thinking he was in danger.

Finally, the whole Heroes-Villains distinction is false;  Brains vs. Brawn would be a better description.  People without physical skill cannot win challenges and will be targeted early for elimination in team competition.  They must use guile and cleverness to survive.  A dominant physical player doesn't need to resort to those tactics.

What happened to Survivor this week?

March Madness.  Or for those of us who don't care about basketball, March Meaningless.  This happens to Survivor every year at this time.

BTW, Survivor is on Wednesday next week instead of its usual Thursday.  Check your DVR's.

Best 4 days of the year if you are a fan of college basketball... and they have not disappointed.
What a show! Love him or hate him Russel plays a pretty mean game of Survivor. I must admit I had the double elimination episodes and I wonder if they will merge after next week.
Tyson voted himself out of the game, that was priceless.  And Colby is a great person, not sure where the hate comes from.  This was a great episode.  Does that make three idols played by Russell now, including last season?  Has to be a record.

The look on Rob's face when Tyson got voted off was absolutely classic...welcome to the big leagues, Rob.

Damn you, Tyson!  Awesome people do not blindside themselves!
I don't see what the big deal is, Tyson's gone (didn't care about him one way or the other), James is gone (couldn't stand him) and Russell gave away his protection...pluses all over the place for me tonight.

Russell better hope he finds another idol or repairs bridges enough by next council or he's history. What, does he think his little gesture will save him? With Rob still in the game I don't think so.

Rob is the Charles Manson of Survivor, he will talk and talk and get you to do his bidding and if he's dead determined to boot Russell than he's outta there.
Russel's move though wasn't giving away his idol to give it away.  He knew that he had convinced Tyson to forget the 3-3-3 tie, by explaining that he was smart enough to see through it, and he'd vote her off.. that got him to also vote for her.. and wham.. he knew the tie was broken up, and since he knew she'd have more votes, and his block would stay solid.. it was actually a pretty brilliant play to weaken Rob's alliances.

That having been said, I agree.  Rob hates him, and right now, the numbers say Russel needs to either find another idol or have someone else who really needs to go to survive.  But he's slippery like that.
A brilliant play indeed.

As I see it, there were two things Russell couldn't possibly have known which makes it all the more impressive:

1.)  How could he have known that Tyson would be one of the three votes for him (and not Parvati?)  Unless Tyson admitted it to him...but I think Rob's group of six wouldn't have even given up their plan so readily.

2.)  How could he have known that Tyson wouldn't have gone back to Rob & company and spill the beans about his conversation with Russell--and his potential plan to "pile on" Pavarti and switch his vote.

It's brilliant enough that Russell would have realized that Tyson would consider flipping his vote with the tease of the guarantee of her ouster AND be confident enough in his plan to hand her the HII in order to secure (not only his own safety in the game but) the safety of his main ally.

Pretty impressive game play.

That said...I hope Rob eventually gets to take him out.  But I have a hard time voting against Russell.

WOW! That was a great episode of Survivor.

I really thought Russel was gone when he gave up the Idol, but that Slippery Snake managed to save his ass again. Regardless how you feel about Russel you have to give him credit, that move was pure Survivor Genius. One of the best ever. Boston Rob was smart enough to split the Vote, but he would have needed the Hubble Telescope to see that move coming from Russel.  I hate to say it but Boston Rob just got schooled by the Troll.

Poor Tyson, a victim of his own stupidity. He got played HARD by Russel. I never cared for Tyson but he was a strong Allie of Boston Robs, who I am cheering for this season. I think Tysons departure will hurt Boston Robs long term game plan.

That kicked butt.  The look on Rob's face was priceless.  As was the "wait, what just happened?" comment.

This season is great - it's all game, we're not seeing too much of their struggle for food and water at the camps though which I think would make it even better.

"Excuse me JT, would you like a banana?"
