Hey guys, finally about to purchase a system today, but just want to check, which one is better honestly because when i go to onkyousa.com and compare the 2 systems, the 7200 looks like its better other then for one thing which is the Subwoofer, the 9100 has a better sub and in a wooden box, but if you guys, can, please help me out before i order,

OTHER then the subwoofer being better in the 9100, which is better if we disregard the subwoofer issue?

While the speakers in the 9100 may be marginally better overall than the speakers in the 7200 I wouldn't let that sway my decision if it means putting you over budget  If you choose to upgrade at all in the future, you'll probably choose to upgrade the speakers first regardless of which system you got.

Both systems come with good receivers.  Plenty of inputs, and they fully support all that Blu-Ray has to offer.  I don't put much stock in the "THX Certification" - it simply doesn't carry the same weight that it did 10 or 12 years ago.  The 9100 does have multichannel analog inputs, but since it fully supports Blu-Ray audio via HDMI, those will only come in handy if you have, maybe, an HDDVD player, or even an old laserdisc player that you'd want to hook up that way.

I think the 7200 is a fine system, and with the $150 or so you'll save, that will be just about enough to go pick up a new Blu-Ray player (there are several profile 2.0 players available this holiday season for about $150 one from Samsung, I believe).  Don't forget the speaker wire and HDMI cables (from Monoprice.com).

yep bought from monoprice a few days ago and left close to 300 there lol, waiting for everything to come in this wednesday

i mean this is what i will have, i have now:

Samsung UN55B800
PS3
Wii
Panasonic DMR
Cable Box
Computer
and still looking to get a Blu Ray player

what i like in the 7200 are the long speakers which i can put standing on the floor, but what i like in the 9100 is the 12' wooden subwoofer

i love bass...so you say THX compared to NON-THX, there isnt much of a difference? or should i sprint for the 9100 and just buy two standing speakers separately? or buy the 7200 and buy a 12' wooden subwoofer?

It's been  a while since I've listened to these Onkyo systems, and probably different models then the ones you're looking at, but I didn't care for the sound quality of the plastic speakers (much like the 7200) as compared to the ones like the 9100 has. The drivers are 3 1/4"s which is just too small. The 9100 has dual 5 1/4" at least for the front three. The 7200 does have Dynamic Volume which is highly praised but I'd still go with the 9100. Keep your expectations reasonable and might just be happy with the speakers and sub you get with it. You might not with the 7200.

ye most likely will be going with the 9100 and just buy two floor standing speakers

anyone got any good suggestions for great quality floor speakers, what brands are good?
is Jamo good? Klipsch, Polk, Kef? which one is pretty good where i can get two speakers for about 600  (300 a piece)

Jamo E680
Yamaha NS-A1738
Technics
Paradigm Monitor 7
Polk Audio R30
Polk Audio Monitor 60
Klipch Synergy SF-2

Can you guys please let me know which one of these i should get (keep in mind, all the ones i listed above come in a PAIR, so 2 speakers of each one) but which one should i get because i just ordered my Onkyo HT-S9100THX and i will be most likely swapping out the two front, Left and Right speakers, for one of the tower setups, because i dont want to exceed 7 speakers, 4 in corners, 2 towers, and 1 center + the subwoofer that the S9100 comes with. Please advise :)

The Paradigm's. The Yamaha's and the Jamo's look interesting but it's the P's for me. But it's important for the all three front speakers to match so you should budget for a matching center speaker as well. All three should be from the same series by the same manufacturer. The others aren't worth $600.

With the amount of money you're going to wind up spending you might have been better off buying separates.

little too late for buying separates lol but maybe for the next room i will start buying separates hehe, I've got an Onkyo HT-SR800 in one room which sounds great and i got it for $125, mint condition, from another home but they were moving so i got it for nothing practically. for my room just got the HT-S9100THX and going to look into two tower speakers to replace the front right and left speakers, and perhaps for the other 2 rooms i have to get systems for, maybe will build from separates.

So you suggest the Paradigm? you think its the best out of all the others?

It's impossible to recommend speakers because only you know what sounds good to you, but based on reputation alone, ya the Paradigms would be at the top of my list. But in all fairness, I don't have any experience with those Yamaha's or any Jamo's. The others aren't in the same league.

gotcha, well the paradigms monitor 7's i was about to pick up 2 of them for 300 new in the box from this guy, but already sold, he just emailed me back :( so that was an insane price, but unfortunatly i wasnt lucky enough :(

As for all the other ones, not sure now which ones to get :( the Jamo's looks pretty good, im not an audiophile so i dont know anything about specs of the systems, i wouldnt know whats good and whats not, according to specs, which one you think is better, the Jamo E680 or the Yamaha NS-A1738

also, one of my buddies just told me that he might know someone who's selling Cerwin Vega AT-12....are they good?

i just want to apologize for being such a n00b and annoying you :(

Gee, I seem to recall some time not long ago, someone recommended not letting the speakers drive your HTiB decision because you're eventually going to upgrade the speakers anyway.

Seriously, though, I'm a fan of canadian speakers, so I agree that the Paradigm's should be near the top of your list, and might also suggest seeing if there's a PSB dealer in your area.  The Alpha T1's are a possibility as well.

I'll second the importance of upgrading all front three speakers together - a timbre-matched set is imperative.

Yea, unfortunatly tho the Paradigms are no longer avail and i dont have 800 right now, but yea i do agree that all 3 front speakers should match

I got offered a few more front speakers, can you please help me out.

Cerwin Vega AT-12
Cerwin Vega E-310
Jamo E680

I can get pretty good prices on them, all of them are in mint condition, but out of those 3 for example, which ones would you recommend?

Ps. im not planning on upgrading speakers any time soon, thats why i want to get something that will sound great now and just live with it for now lol =P
