According to The Digital Bits

"...Best Buy is going to have an exclusive on Warner and New Line's Boogie Nights on Blu-ray for at least a few weeks (similar to their recent exclusive version of WHV's The Green Mile on BD). It will be available at your local Best Buy store on 12/15 and will eventually be available at all retailers in early 2010."

I love the movie so this was a pleasant surprise to me.

Well that's one way to get my money. They got it for Green Mile, and they'll get it for Boogie Nights. Been waiting for this movie to come out on BD ever since I got my PS3 in 2007...just hope that it doesn't have too many quads per channel on Blu Ray...

That's why I got a TK-421 modification on my stereo.

With an exclusive distribution such as this, do studios send out copies for review, or will we have to wait for general distribution?

It took a while for The Green Mile and Gremlins to be reviewed, so I think the studio (Warner, in this case) sends out a disc when it goes into general distribution. It's double, I want to know what the movie looks like, but I don't have access to a Best-Buy, so I can't even buy the BD yet.

Love this film, but as with The Green Mile I can wait a few months until the exclusivity period ends and I can get it from Amazon and save about 10 bucks.

Also, given New Line's track record I really want to see some reviews (or user experiences) before taking the plunge.

Saw this last night.  Looked GREAT on my 92 in screen.  No sign of DNR-itis, grain is present and appeared natural.  The opticals (fade to black, split screen, etc. - which were done photochemically) look like they got knocked back a generation, but that's expected and they look as they should IMHO.  Nice detail throughout.  I was very pleased, as I was initially concerned with New Line's previous use of liberal DNR.  Good news for Magnolia next month.

Audio was fine - this is not an aggressive mix to begin with.  The lossless track was welcome.

Thanks for the good news. Bodes well not only for Magnolia but also for the LotR trilogy in April!

Felix, what about the extras?  Is everything ported over from the 2-disc NL DVD?

Everything except the color bars (and the corresponding easter egg)

Well, that was a pretty "sizeable" easter egg to drop.  How could they pull a boner like that?

It's being reported that your wait will end on January 19th.

BOOGIE NIGHTS as well as MAGNOLIA were on the January listings for review titles.  So, you should see reviews in early January.

Excellent - Magnolia and Boogie Nights on the same day. Sounds like a double-feature to me!

I watched this tonight and it's a solid release.  Great movie and highly recommended.
