TV-on-DVD Orphans! - Page 2

Shout! Factory has done it again. This time, "C.O.P.S." comes off this list due to Shout's direct sales. It's nice to see this list actually has become shorter since I began it!

Does the unexpected cancellation of the complete second season of "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" qualify it as orphaned?

I'd say yes, but I missed notification of the cancellation. Where was this posted?

Sorry, in denial as it's a disappointment to me that yet ANOTHER Western bites the dust after one season attempted.

I too am very disappointed that the Wyatt Earp series will never be completed.

Well, at least not by Falcon. Maybe we'll get lucky and Timeless or Mill Creek will finish it.

I can dream, can't I?
actually that would be great if either of those got the rights and put it out.  I would really like a Mill Creek release as their prices are very reasonable.

Given it's a Western, I'd look more towards Timeless, since they seem to be doing a lot of those lately. But we'll see. I still haven't seen an official notice that Falcon is done.

Well, as far as I know, Infinity never announced that it was cancelled, it just suddenly disappeared from their website and Amazon went from pre-order to "discontinued by the manufacturer" so who really knows what happened.

So, is there anything on this list that seems likely to be licensed out?

Dragnet, for example, is one most people point to since Shout is doing so well with Adam-12.

Since Shout! has a deal with Sony, they could certainly pick up the slack on the 18 shows they have (that they should have started in the first place) and at least a dozen shows left hanging, as they have for Universal.

Shout also has some type of deal with Fox, doesn't it? I mean, Shout is doing Rhoda and Room 222, and finished up Son of the Beach from Fox.

I didn't know about Shout and Sony... just SF and Universal and SF and Fox.

And is stuff like this done on a case by case basis, or does SF's deal cover the original studio's entire catalog?

The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp - believe it was 2008, released first season, planned to release all 6 seasons, then abruptly cancelled all remaining seasons.

I actually wonder if the issue is with Falcon and not the show. For them to make concrete long term plans and then suddenly cancel seems to indicate a bigger problem.

By the way, I thought Season One of Earp came out in 2009.

Amazon says it came out in April 2009, so it's not quite ready to be added to this list. Hopefully, they'll get back to it and we'll never have to add it to this list.

Matthew: I'm really hoping that Shout makes its sales projections on its direct-to-consumer titles. Because if they do--the sky's the limit. And I would love it if they could pick up some of Sony's orphans. I know about another 100 forum members who will say the same. So let's not waste any time, and buy whatever sets they have that interest us--make 'em know we really want this stuff!

Romain has The Nanny (4-6) in his sig, you haven't added it to your list yet! Currently, it has stopped at 3.

Agreed and I've been hoping that shows like AITF and Jeffersons would get grabbed by Shout, same with Benson and Different Strokes.

My problems? I'm so far behind in collecting and money is so tight, I have to be very selective. I just hope my being selective is not the critical buy that costs a show.

For my money, Shout and Timeless have become the Supreme Court of TV on DVD, that is to say, the court of last resort.

Don't count on it. Sont isn't going to give away their shows to Shout.

Why not? "Sont" isn't producing any more seasons, which means they're not making any more money, plus sales have to have slowed down with no recent releases of shows like AITF, Archie Bunker or Jeffersons. I mean, if the best they can do is just repackage what they have already produced into a new box set, why not license out to Shout or Timeless or Mill Creek?

Other additions include:
The Sentinel - Season 1 released on 4/18/2006 with S2-S4 still AWOL. I believe Paramount owns this.
Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) - Set 1 which is the first half of Season 1 and was released on 2/24/2004. TVShowsonDVD.com has the rights owned by A&E Home Video.

Edit:
War of the Worlds - Season 1 was released on 11/1/2005. Season 2 AWOL and rights are owned by Paramount.

Season 3 came out in March of last year; I'll add it to the list when it passes the year mark...hopefully I won't have to! Sony has been very funny with that series; for ages, they've had a stub listing on amazon for season 4, with what I believe to be temp package art. I hope that means Sony's at least seriously considering releasing season 4. The Nanny is another sitcom that deserves to run to completion--and yet, all of Sony's shows do.

The Nanny is a moderately music-heavy show. While they have been good about keeping music intact on 1-3, that factor may come into play for the rest of the series.

Bump; "According to Jim" has been removed from the list forever; season two is coming out May 4 from Lionsgate!

And now "Alias Smith & Jones" is no longer an orphan! Two orphans "adopted" in one week...pretty good!

Any hope for Season 2 & 3 of The Bill Engvall Show?
