Hi folks. I currently have a Polk RM6750 subwoofer which came with a home stereo set. The back says its 100 watts. Receiver is Yamaha RX-V465. I'm looking to get a better subwoofer but not sure what is good and what is not. Just look for higher wattage? Sometimes I hear the sub go past its limits and it kind of sounds bad so I want to improve this. Just looking to upgrade. Thanks

I'm looking to spend about 100-150 if possible. Color would be black. Uses would be mainly home theater. No size limitations for the sub itself really. Room size is about 15x17. Thanks.

Brant: Welcome to the HTF!
I'm no expert. But having read several threads like this one around the HTF I would suspect you'll be told by our resident experts that your budget is fairly limiting to expand too much. What's the size of the driver in your current sub? Do you know? 8", 10", 12"?
I have read many recommendations here for the Dayton subs at PartsExpress.com. You should check them out and see how they compare to your current sub (by way of size/specs, etc.)
Good luck!

Look at the Dayton models. PE should start their sales soon so check them every day. If you can up your budget, then we will recommend other manufacturers. With sub, the more you spend, the better the performance up to a few thousand dollars.
What are your goals? SPL (loud!)? Extension (playing low)? Both? What size room? What type of material (movies, music, both)?

And now, someone who just thinks he's an expert!

On the low end of the budget: Dayton-Sub-100 ($79), Dayton-ES-8-(hsu) ($99).
Upper end: AudioSource-PSW112 ($129), BIC-V1020 ($148).

I am in a similar situation. how would you compare the Bic-v1020 to the Dayton sub100/120? They are all with in $10 of each other (around 150).

On paper the BIC "looks" better. 160 watt amp vs. 125 and down to 26 hz vs. 30 hz for the Dayton. But of course it's out of stock. I have two of the original 10" Dayton "Mighty Mites" that go down to 25 hz. Not bad for a $99 sub.
