Why I won't buy Sopranos Season One Blu Ray: I'm holding out for the complete set

I can't belive HBO would pull this on us Sopranos BR Fans ! they did a really nice standard dvd box set
and from what I can tell they are doing another one(cheaper??) But no Blue Ray!!! instead they are trying
to get us to rebuy each season !   Don't let them have your money!! You know that years from now there
will be a nice BR Complete Box when the feature film comes out

Didn't the Complete Series DVD box set come out after every season came out first? So it would make sense if they did the same thing with Blu-ray.
And if the majority decides to wait for the Complete Series on Blu and doesn't buy the separate seasons, you might not get the box set at all. I don't think you want that to happen.

NO! it dosn't make sense!   They could only release all the seasons till they came out, which now they did
so theres no reason, other then the fan who wants only one or two seasons, and
I would guess most want the whole series, and don't want to pay though the nose
for single BR editions

The title of this thread needs to be changed. I'm sure it was titled to catch people's attention by inciting 'panic' but it makes it sound like there's a problem with the disc and there apparently isn't.

It'd be great if HBO released a series set but this is their biggest cash cow, there's no way that they aren't milking it for all its worth. If you don't like it, wait a couple years for the series set.

Also, it's spelled "Blu" not "Blue".

I can imagine that six seasons of a television series on Blu-ray can result in a pretty hefty price tag. Plus, there are the people who might want to check it out, but don't want to pay for the entire series all at once.
Also, catalog television series aren't doing very well on Blu-ray, so there's no way Warner is going to put them out in a single box set.

If it's not doing well, that's because they aren't selling it. I have exactly four catalog Blu-ray TV series on my shelf: Firefly, Lost, Star Trek: TOS, and Battlestar Galactica. None of the other series I own on DVD are available on Blu-ray.

(Not that I would necessarily upgrade them all, but there's several that I would. And there's several series among the DVDs that I had been waiting on Blu-rays for months or years before giving up and going for the low-definition version.)

Personally, I'm not all that interested in upgrading from the DVD sets anyway.  I'd need some serious deep discounts (a la BF-style) to be convinced to upgrade them.

I never bought the DVD sets.  I'd love to watch the show again via BD but I'll hold off until there's a complete set or all the seasons are out and I can get a deal on a bundle.

I changed the thread title so it didn't appear there was a quality problem with the title.  I don't see a problem with WB releasing seasonal sets.  All seasons might not be ready for BD yet, and it allows people to buy it a season at a time instead of springing for an expensive box set.

The $36.99 I got this set for at Target was a steal considering that these sets used to cost in the $80 range on SD-DVD

At this stage in the game, I couldn't care less about "complete series" box sets.  They're usually awkwardly sized and gimmicky.

All I care about is owning every episode in the best possible quality, and the price points for Season 1 (and 6) have been absolutely fantastic online and in stores this week.

I'm more than content to pick them up season-by-season.  I'm just thankful for HBO for finally rolling these out.  I hope they continue.

Yet you want every episode?  whats the problem ,you want to pay more for crappy Boxes, the first Sopranes complete
set is much nicer than the the newer box for the Blue Ray of season one, which I seen at Barnes and Noble for
50off its 75.00 price!! If thats the only set you want ,buy it! Theres a new Complete set out too
and thats 50 off and isn't blueray !! I haven't seen it opened ,but I wonder if it has the book like the first expensive
set.
"Season 1 (and 6) have been absolutely fantastic online and in stores this week." Yes !! That is true, but I don't
see season 2-5 for that price. and why can't that complete set be Blue Ray??
"
"I'm more than content to pick them up season-by-season". Thats fine if they give us 50off the 75.00 list price
for the  rest of then ,I still prefer complete sets to crappy single , carboard boxes

No, we want to pay more for not-crappy boxes. If Universal does release all of BSG as individual seasons, I'm going to ditch my complete series & pick up the individual ones.

Why?  BD prices are trending downward.  If you're willing to wait a few weeks after their release, I'm willing to bet you'll be able to find them for similar prices.

That's what I'm doing.  I NEVER bought this series before because HBO's SD boxes were unreasonable.  Now we get better quality and a lower price.  Win win!

Hmmm...  That's not a bad idea  although I do love at least a few other individual episodes in subsequent seasons.

If you guys didn't think 2/3 of The Sopranos was good, I can't imagine what you think of 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999% of all other TV shows ever made.

Come on, admit it: 99% of TV shows are crap.

I think the best U.S. TV programs are superior to the best Hollywood is turning out these days. Unless you're counting effects. Not really a fair comparison, TV vs movie, but some TV is quite excellent. There is a lot of crap on TV though, just by my casual scanning around. I really do wonder how some of this stuff made it past 1 season, never mind 8 or more. Obviously everybody's making $$, and time has to be filled. The "airwaves" have become like the internet. With billions of potential viewers, getting a million for something is nothing, and that's often enough to keep it going.

Agreed.  Tough room I guess.

i just bought this boxset =D... but i read the PQ isn't as good ='(. hopefuly i won't be disappointed when i receive it. ah well.

re: other TV series, i luv X-Files (yes even Season8&9) way better than Sopranos, the worst S8-S9 episodes can beat Sopranos s3-s6 by a huge margin ;).

Very little crap has been produced by HBO and Showtime. Perhaps you're referring to network TV.
