What should I use to hear the news in the kitchen? (remote speaker)

My wife is addicted to the newshour on PBS, but the tv etc are in the family room. I have a Sony 40SXXX television with the Sony HTCT soundbar and subwoofer.  I understand I can connect a device called Sony Air to the HTCT that will enable me to place a speaker in the kitchen without wires.

I am unclear from the advertising what equipment I need to add and how to set it up.

Suggestions please?

Buy the Sony SAIR10 and connect the transmitter to the TV.  Take the remote speaker to the kitchen and turn it on.  Listen to whatever is playing on the TV.  At least that's what I got from reading about it on Amazon 30 seconds ago.

That is why I asked. I just bought it from Amazon but something still bugged me so I kept looking and found out that it does not come with the transmitter [S Air Transmitter, EZW T100] That is a separate purchase, more than $40 more on top of almost $90 for the SAIR10... and that is with Amazon's combo price.  I guess I'll look around for a better combo deal.

This is even though the item is advertised as plug and play and my HTCT said they were compatible.

I read the reviews and they all sounded like you didn't need to buy anything else.  That's one reason I've tried to stay with wired components.

Leonard,

I heard on the news yesterday that  Jim Lehrer host of the PBS news hour is going to retire.  Before you buy a speaker system for your kitchen check with your wife to see if she was addicted to news programs or Lehrers slant on the news.

Another alternative would be to purchase a small 19" flat screen LCD TV for the kitchen.

Lehrer will still be on the revamped show.

Meanwhile, I just got the Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner for about a hundred bucks from Amazon. That won't take up much space in the kitchen... and if the sound isn't good enough, I can probably find a pair of speakers in the PC graveyard in the basement.
