Yamaha HTR-5560 - speakers are buzzing

I have a Yamaha HTR-5560 Receiver.  A couple weeks ago, a noticeable, and ver annoying buzzing sound started coming from my speakers. The center channel speaker was loudest, but if I put my ears up to the left and right mains, and left and right rears, I could hear it as well.

I tried to troubleshoot to isolate the source with no luck.  What I ended up doing was pulling everything apart and took my receiver out of the entertainment unit. I plugged the receiver into a wall outlet, and then put JUST the center channel speaker wire into the back.  That's it.  No components were connected.  When I turned the receiver on, the buzzing was still there.  I toggled through all inputs on the receiver (even though nothing was plugged into the back) and the buzzing could be heard on everything except the tuner input.

Is my receiver shot?  It's only 8 years old.  It is worth fixing, or can it be fixed?  I'm kind of ticked, because it was alot of money to me 8 years ago, and to replace it now ($400-$500) is still alot of money to me.

Thanks.

Are you saying when you troubleshot there we NO components connected to the receiver?  That is usually the source of the problem and most commonly cable service, which often causes a ground loop.  If you did NOT do that, try disconnecting your cable (presuming you have cable service) and see if the buzz disappears.

Also try plugging into an outlet in another room. One you are sure is on a different circuit.

Yes, that's exactly what I did.  The receiver had NO components connected.  No cable, no satellite, no dvd, no vcr, no tuner antenna - nothing but the speaker wire to the center channel speaker.  I also unplugged the power cord from the surge protector and plugged it directly into an outlet on a different circuit.  And I still hear the buzzing.

Sounds like your receiver has a problem.
Probably cheaper, in the long run, to get another receiver, than repair that one.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

That's what I was afraid of. I call Yamaha Tech Support and they were no help.  "Oh well, things break after time" they said.  Yeah, thanks.  I won't be buying another Yamaha.  Any recommendations out there on a good $400-$500 surround sound receiver?

Very nice receiver here:
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR507-5-1-Channel-Surround-Receiver/dp/B001VEI290/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=aht&qid=1259019193&sr=1-4
Right now it's $244.99 with free shipping. Can't beat it. Onkyo gives a lot of bang for the buck.
