Hi folks. I'm looking to replace my old Pioneer CSD9900 15" speakers and wanted some suggestions. I do like the larger size but probably need to upgrade soon. Info appreciated. I'm kind of new to all of this so i don't know what to look for when buying speakers. Never really done it!

What other speakers do you have? All speakers should be from the same manufacturer and series. This is especially true for the fronts and center but not as critical for the surrounds. The subwoofer can be from a different brand.
When auditioning speakers in a store take a cd you really like so you can listen to something you are familiar with. And remember, the settings on the stores receiver's will probably be completely messed up which will adversly affect the speakers performance.
Ther are several internet only speaker manufacturers which usually offer a better bang for the buck and most all of the have a 30 day return policy. Many offer free shipping and some will even pay shipping both ways.
When auditioning, make sure the treble isn't overly bright or harsh, or severly muted. The bass should be deep and tight, not "boomy" or exaggerated. And don't forget the mid-range. Vocals should be smooth and natural sounding and not dull or screechy.
Then there's imaging, sound stage and stereo seperation. It's hard to discribe these things but basically the sound should come from the entire front of the room and not just where the speakers are. This is where really good speakers shine. This is what I notice when listening to different speakers. And I have 8-10 pair somewhere in my house right now. I hate craigslist.
