What do you recommend?

I'm looking to buy a 50 - 52" 1080P 120hz TV. I think I want to stay away from Plasma.

We watch a lot of TV via DirecTV I'll be going to one of their HD DVRs with this new TV. I also like to watch action movies on DVD like Transformers, GI Joe whatever. We don't play any video games. The room can be fairly bright in the AM since the outside wall faces East.

So do I want LED OR LCD? I would prefer to buy from Costco and they offer Sony, Samsung, Vizio and??? Priced under 2,000, less is of course better.

Might be tough getting LED under $2k.  I'd go with the Sony or Samsung 55" at Costco and call it a day at that price range, you can't go wrong with either one they are both great sets.
