Is it ok to get a different brand of sub than the rest of your speakers? I'm planning on getting a full 5.1 setup with all Infinity Primus speakers, and matching sub. But then so many people have recommended me look into SVS. I hear they make really good subs? Would this be a good match? Or should I just stick with the Infinity one?

The sub does not need to be the same brand as your speakers.

In fact, most of the name brand speaker companies make poor to awful subs or the price is nowhere close to the performance. Internet direct companies that specialize in subs are the best value. SVS has already been mentioned but there is also Elemental Designs, Epik Subwoofers and Hsu Research.

Because subs operate at different frequencies from regular speakers, it is not necessary to timbre match subs. I agree with Robert when he says internet direct subs offere the best value for your dollar.
