Home Theatre Problems

I recently put in a home theatre.
We have a blu ray home theatre system DVD player with surround sound and we have it connected to a Screen Play projector.
My problem is the DvD player has HDMI mode.
So I try to hook up an xbox to the HDMi and play it, the screen says "This is HDMI mode. Pelase set your Tv to HDMI mode."
But I don't have a TV, I use a projector.
When I turn on the xbox we can hear the game playing, we just can't see anything because it is showing the HDMI mode message.
I am wondering if anybody knows how to resolve this problem.

NOTE: Our projector does not have an HDMi outlet.

What inputs does the projector have?
If it has a DVI input, you can get a HDMI to DVI cable, and it should work fine.
If not, and it has component inputs, you might need to use component connections, instead of HDMI.
