The MGM Wish List

You would think that with the enormous success of the new "Twilight" movie and the overall vampire craze, MGM or whoever inherits their library would be quick on getting out VAMPIRE CIRCUS and TWINS OF EVIL in the United States. Also, love your list and would like to ad a region 1 disk of BLOOD ON SATANS CLAW.

I second Riot On Sunset Strip, Glory Stompers, Savage Seven, Dr Goldfoot, The Black Sleep, Vampire Circus, Hands Of The Ripper, Blood On Satan's Claw and any other b-grade exploito rock'n'roll/teen/cycle "trash" that would've been issued under the Midnite Movies banner. I would especially love to see a legit release for Riot though! I would be gassed if they asked Domenic Priore (writer / filmmaker / music and cultural historian of '60s LA/Hollywood/Sunset Strip scene) to record a commentary track with Dave Aguilar of the Chocolate Watchband! And similarly, a music-only track and commentary with Davie Allen for the Glory Stompers would be totally boss!

It's also about time that the damn Kubrick films were given proper restorations and reissues with some extras. If not, they should be licensed out to Criterion as they did with Night of The Hunter.

Let's hope the bulk of these titles are saved from MGM's new DVD-on-demand endeavor, which looks to be a dead end disaster.

What leads you to believe it is a "dead end disaster"? 

...Replicated DVD-Rs for 20 bucks a pop, only available through Amazon, with no covers to boot, compared with the good old days of pressed DVDs for around 10 bucks a pop, a lot of times getting a double feature for that low price. I don't mind that they do this for certain titles, but I certainly don't want to see stuff like ROLLING THUNDER, TWINS OF EVIL, DEATH RIDES A HORSE or THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN come out that way.

I believe that Men of the Fighting Lady is an MGM title.

It is and MGM title that belongs to Warner Brothers.

Another vote for the Hammer Horror films.
Unbelievable that those haven't been released in R1 yet.

If you were talking about Lionsgate, yes, they would have re-released all of the vampire-themed films they own (I'm waiting for a Fright Night 2 reissue myself) just to cash in on Twilight. But this is MGM - a currently moribund studio barely on life support. I actually don't expect ANYTHING from them until the economic fog lifts completely or until someone buys them out.

I would rather have had the following on pressed disc but since the VOD program is in full-swing, I'd rather see them on dvd-r than never at all. I'd like to suggest:

Will we ever see a decent version of Runaway Train? I find it hard to fathom such a great film still neglected on DVD and that nobody has asked about it. It belongs on a top 10 list of forgotten films or something.

Yeah, I agree, those flicks, among many others, are gonna remain in a tight limbo for some time to come.

This film would come from Warner Brothers or Warner Archive.  They own all the MGM pre-1986 films.  It can become very confusing who owns what with the purchases, mergers and bankruptcies over the years.  The hope has been that this film would be in a Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy set, but we know where pressed DVD's stand now.  Perhaps it can come from the TCM Vault Series.
